Ok seriously, this is the 3rd-4th UT vs USC(or other) thread where bigtexxx/T_J are harrassing others (or is it just Major/RM95) about contributing. Why?

Major was talking about how much he bet on sports so I brought up the fact that he hadn't contributed. He's freeloading

I'm also offering to vote if he will contribute!

stop flattering yourself..... your vote aint that important.

on another note... this espn coverage of usc is so g*ddamn annoying    . how in the world can they even be discussed as one of the greatest of all time without even having finished the season yet?!?!?!? i mean, both guys on sportscenter put them as the 2nd best all time, and they haven't even won a national championship!

i just fail to see how the self-proclaimed "leader in sports" could be so biased/unprofessional.

Dude....have a cream soda. USC is #1 for a reason. They are also favored for a reason. Do you think the oddsmakers base their lines on what Lee Corso and Kirk Herbstriet say during College gameday?

Face it....Texas is not as good as USC.

USC is number 1 because they started the year number 1, just like we started the year number 2. No other reason. Just like Auburn got left out last year because they started the year much lower than SC/OU.

Secondly, I know why they are favored. Something like a 34 game winning streak, although I don't see how that affects this particular game. Maybe I should go tell Vince and Co that the game is over before it starts? No thank you.

But you come into this thread, add nothing of any substance except to spew off incorrect information, and tell me to chill after I prove your viewpoint to have serious flaws. Get real. I exposed your view "that USC is a freight train on both offense and defense" and you come back with this reply. Did you miss the part where Texas has outscored SC this season, not to mention USC's defense is statistically ranked in the 30-40's-allowing 21.3 points per game, while the top ten statistically ranked texas defense allows 14.6 points per game? If anyone is the freight train going into this game by the numbers, it's the Horns. Yet, the spread is 8 freakin points when it has no business being so.

Furthermore, I think that the Horns are easily as good as SC, and if I were betting on this game(I'm not) I'd easily take the 8 points and the Horns, as I think we can take this straight up. Our complementary players on offense are being so overlooked it's funny, while Jarrett and Byrd have gotten plenty of run by ESPN and other analysts. Not to mention, we have our own spectacular player in Vince Young.

Face this, USC 05 is not as good as USC 04, and just because the spread is 8 points and ESPN(or the USCN as it gets jokingly called on some Horn fansites) thinks that a team that hasn't won the national title yet is in the top 5 all time, does not mean they are better.

I like how SC's defense gambles on making interceptions even if their line is hole-ridden....

I wouldn't call it good football, but it pumps up the scores and drama....

    Agreed.

That said, I'm thinking of parlaying the 4 main Bowl Games.
Notre Dame, Georgia, Florida State, all straight up...

The last game is a toss up for me right now. I'm undecided on Texas +8, USC -8, Texas straight up, or USC straight up. I will decide by tomorrow afternoon.

Heh. Close enough now that arguing the point is meaningless.

We'll see in a few days.

Obviously you don't know anything about sport gambling and how oddsmakers base their line.

They could give a rat's ass what the real score is or if their line is accurate. All they care about is that there is equal payout on both sides of the line because they make their money on the vig. That is the reason why the line moves from day to day.

What this means is that the line is only an accurate indicator of the popularity of the team and not who the oddsmakers pick to win.

Wasn't Texas #1 for a week or 2 and then got bumped down?

Anyway....you really need to relax. I know plenty about the players on Texas (probably not as much as you) and USC (probably not as much as a rabid USC fan).....and my opinion is that Texas will lose. Maybe Vince Young will blame the Heisman voters if they lose.

No, not the human polls. That was the effect of the computers on the BCS.

what did I say that would be misspeaking? i know full well that the line is the line because they pick the number that will generate the most action on both sides

I said that the oddsmakers dont get their info by watching espn.....if they truly thought that Texas would win the game....and if they thought that the majority of people thought Texas would win, Texas would be favored..but they are not. I hope for some of you guys' sakes that Texas wins...because it seems like some will be looking for the nearest bridge if they lose

Man, I saw some ESPN reportacge of the practice sessions. USC's was all about how their "closed practices" are filled with alumni and all sorts of media, etc. and about how Snoop Dog and other celebs will not be allowed on their sidleine during the game so it will feel "more like a college game". Gee, when I think Snoop Dog I think college.

Anyway, UT's report was all players and Mack Brown answering questions about how they feel about trying to stop USC's offense.

Now I really really want UT to kill them.
