Did I say teams picking around 8?

    I said mocks in general.

And incidentally most mocks have Brewer going in the 11-17 range, while Redick is more like 8-14.

Also apparently Boston's draft board is:

    1. M Williams
    2. Redick
    3. Sergio

    Seattle's is apparently

    1. Redick
    2. Carney
    3. Brewer

    Orlando's is apparently

    1. Carney/Reddick
    2. Brewer

ESPN claims Redick's draft range is 7-14 and Brewer's and Carney's is 8-16.

Rockets fans have created this whole idea that it's Redick that has no business even being discussed at 8.

Redick's range ends at 14 because he's the exact type of player Utah wants. Everyone knows that.

Dude, I just can't WAIT when we don't draft Redick, seriously. Can't WAIT to see you stop ranting. SHEESH

Where did you get this info? Teams usually keep their draft boards pretty private. Link?

It is better than having fans who think Redick should be the only player sought at #8, no ifs ands or buts about it.

Sheldon Williams is a good choice at #8 if Roy is not available

I was warming to the idea of Rodney Carney on this team, but over the past month or so you guys have really gotten me excited about Brewer.. so if Roy or Gay don't fall, that's my pick. If we get Carney now it'll seem like a letdown even

I chose Brewer, but if Roy or Gay were there at #8, it would be a complete no brainer taking either one of them. I think Roy is the only player that probably is capable of starting for JVG and Gay is the most talented. I have seen Roy play before and Gay as well, I can't say the same thing about Brewer, just going off scouting reports and a few highlight reels that show some his strengths.

I think the Rockets will get a very good player at #8 in just about any scenario, also I would be content with Redick, Carney, Foye or Sheldon Williams as well. In my personal opinion Foye will probably be the sleeper as far as lottery players go, the kid can just flat out play.

Agreed. I think Foye has the potential to be a 'poor mans Dwayne Wade.'

If for some reason we dont go with Brewer (which I hope we do pick him) I would have no hesitation on picking Foye. And having Luther Head on the roster would not deter me from picking Foye. Head is a nice shooter. Foye is a nice SCORER and more. Foye is a starter in the NBA and Head is a nice bench rotational player in my opinion.

Nevertheless....I still like Ronnie Brewer. ;)

And that would be 2 huge mistakes by Houston teams in one year.

    :)

Redick will be a player, as will Brewer, but it doesn't matter, JVG will not play either one of them.

Heck, everyone talks about Josh Howard, but this is his 3rd year.

Dallas had Michael Finley and Antawn Jamison to play ahead of Josh Howard his rookie year.

    Who do we have?

My first choice is Carney... provides the size and athleticism we need at the perimeter and he can shoot. My second choice would be Brewer, but I still worry about that shot.

I don't think the Reddick supporter are that off base, I think some people around here just get excited by the thought of Reddick running a pick and roll with Yao, which would be a great alternative in those times when T-mac is on the bench (or in street clothes fo that matter).

Actually I think in our system (and maybe Seattle's) he'll be in the running for ROY. That said, is he the best pick at eight? probably not, but with all the trade talk I could certainly see us trading down to take Reddick when Roy and Gay become unavailable. Brewer is getting a lot of ink around here but his numbers in college (in a weaker conference, incidentally) are nothing compared to Reddick, so that "he's no that good business" is bullcookies.

Wrong. He'll play them, just like he played Luther Head this year, provided they aren't totally incompetent. He has no choice.

Stop resuscitating the "JVG hates rookies and won't play them" fallacy - it's simply not true and basically fake.

I've seen several names associated with Carney, mostly just repeated from websites. For a few days the height thing bothered me a bit, but then I looked at the highlight video again in a new light (as well as the descriptions of his talents and character) and I think I see a little bit of Bonzi Wells when I look at him.

I think he might make a decent to good shooting guard in the NBA.

I also appreciate that there are many good reasons why one might select Brewer, but if the Rockets do so I'm going to have to stop watching when he comes in the game -- His jumper genuinely makes me cringe every time I see it. I appreciate that he has developed a reasonable degree of accuracy, but I watch basketball is in large part because it is an aesthetically pleasing game, and that jumper will bar none be the ugliest shot in the NBA since the Michael Adams hip-shot.

Good points, so the question is this: What if BOTH Roy and Gay fall to #8?

What do we do then? Heheheh hey as long as we are dreaming, can I have Kate Beckinsale for breakfast?

Great question. Never really thought about it. Roy would help the rockets right from the get go and probably be in the running for rookie of the year, but I think Gay will eventually be the better player. Gay can cover both the 3 and in a pinch the 4 position as well, he also has all-star potential. Having both those guys to choose from at #8 would be a great problem to have. I personally would have to go with Roy just because T-Mac and Yao's window is now, also the SG position is probably the rockets biggest hole. JVG also claimed in his latest interview that if they drafted a small forward he would have to get his minutes behind T-Mac, which would not help Gay's growth.

Houston fans should remember this, Redick torches Texas for 41 points:

    And yeah he CAN dunk:

and yeah he CAN handle the rock:

I vote Redick, and honestly I don't see why people think anyone else available 8 is the guy over him. His game speaks for itself.
