Shelden's nice, but... JVG said he wants 'a power forward with shooting range'. Whether that'll be a role player for 10-15 MPG or something more, it brings our PF count up. Drafting Shelden would, along with that 'shooting PF' leave us with 5 PF's under contract. And we all know Juwan & Stro aren't guys we'll get rid of easily. Some have said earlier that we won't be able to fix all of our needs this summer. And I agree with that... Our guards have 'aged' very quickly over the past year so IMHO that position should be our priority this summer.
let's say morrison, aldridge, thomas, roy, barganani, & gay are the top 6 picks. celtics choose either shelden, o'bryant, carney, brewer, or redick rockets could be in a position to get the best overall point in this draft, but who is he out of foye, m.williams, rondo, rodriguez, farmar?
At our pick, I'd definitely have to go with Marcus Williams IF we did take a PG. Once he's off the board, I think "#2 PG in the draft" becomes very subjective. Foye is the scorer, Rondo is the defender, Farmar could be really good if he tightens up his game a little, and Rodriguez is very promising but also a project. Boston has even been rumored to maybe like Rodriguez enough to take him at 7.
Think about it this way...6 guys almost HAVE to go in the top 8 strictly because they've been projected that high for so long that they've been stamped as a "top prospect", whether true or not. They are as follows: Aldridge Thomas Bargnani Morrison Gay Roy There are rumors that Shelden Williams is going to Atlanta at #5, so that pushes someone down. There are also rumors that Patrick O'Bryant may be a Celtic, so that pushes one more player down to us. There have also been rumors that the Celtics like Sergio Rodriguez at #7, or that they are putting up a smokescreen and actually like Marcus Williams. So that's 3 players that the Celtics might take before us, and obviously any one of them pushes another player down. So as you can see, due to factors other than Ronnie Brewer not being as good as advertised, he has a very good chance of lasting until #8. Of course, that doesn't mean I'm not worried that he might not...or that management will do something stupid like trade down and hope he's there in the teens.
And this too... Stromile Swift for Clifford Robinson Scott Padgett #23 pick (Alexander Johnson?) Oh yes. It works.
You misunderstood my point. I was saying that he is not that good and won't be out 3rd option at least in the first 2-3 years in the league. He could turn out to be a Marquis Daniels, but also a bust. Don't hold your expectations to high. You will be disappointed.
I agree but carney doesnt have a pretty down side i was an advocate of taking him but now Brewer is the clear choice i think he has the max potential to be a Josh Howard but with lock down D!
This one of my first posts. I got to go with Brewer. Originally I was a Rodney Carney guy but Brewer's overall game strikes me as the most complete pick to fill our needs.
Personally, I think the Rox need someone else who gets fouled. You look at the mavs and they were one of the top ft atts teams in the league. Thats a point the rox can improve upon.
I too am hesitant about combo guards; however, I think if anyone could make the Arenas-like trasition to the point, it's Foy in this draft. My feeling is that if we stand pat with the 8th pick, we have to look at The Land Lord, followed by Foy, and then Brewer.
Foye is a good player but picking him would be a bit redundant since we have Head already. Not to mention he's 6'3.
Just to throw this in, if you check out what other teams's fans are mocking up, no other fans of any team have Brewer or Carney going as high as 8th. FYI
Maybe that's because those teams would rather have Roy, Gay, Aldridge, Barg, Thomas, Morrison? Shoot, I would too.
I would only draft Foye if we were positive that he's a point guard (which many NBA GM's apparently believe he could be), ... and which Luther Head is definately not. Personally, I don't see Alston as our starting point guard, but rather as a backup; same with Head at the 2 spot. (Granted, I wouldn't draft Foye to play the 2 given his lack of height). But if he can learn to run the floor, and make the trasition to nba point guard ... watch out. He is a deadly scorer, and solid defender.
Well prepare to get disappointed again, DD. Houston didn't pick your Vince, and now they won't pick your Redick.
