Here's my favorite, if Miami wants to dump salary: Houston trades: SF Glen Rice (9.0 ppg, 2.5 rpg, 1.1 apg in 24.7 minutes) PG Tito Maddox (1.2 ppg, 0.8 rpg, 0.6 apg in 3.9 minutes) Houston receives: PF Brian Grant (10.3 ppg, 10.2 rpg, 1.3 apg in 32.2 minutes) Change in team outlook: +0.1 ppg, +6.9 rpg, and -0.4 apg. Miami trades: PF Brian Grant (10.3 ppg, 10.2 rpg, 1.3 apg in 32.2 minutes) Miami receives: SF Glen Rice (9.0 ppg, 2.5 rpg, 1.1 apg in 62 games) PG Tito Maddox (1.2 ppg, 0.8 rpg, 0.6 apg in 9 games) Change in team outlook: -0.1 ppg, -6.9 rpg, and +0.4 apg. TRADE ACCEPTED That way, we have Mobley and Griffin as trade bait for a point guard. Miami frees up $11 million in cap room next summer. A Grant/MoT PF combo would complement well. Grant could be Yao's enforcer, and MoT would provide low post offense when Cato is in the game. Rice would be happy to play his last year at home.
so? sorry but i want a shotblocker as my backup center...especially considering the matador backcourt we have.
the point is to add muscle to a team that really lacks it. And blocks are not the only way to stop people. Good positioning and solid D will get the job done as well. U r telling me Cato is a better defender than Grant?? no way. Grant basically shut down Yao twice this season. Besides, Cato only plays 17 mpg i believe. Grant would play around 30.
so, if yao's in foul trouble or injured, you'd have PF: motay C: brian grant who's your backup 4? and who do you plan on stopping with that frontcourt? sorry, but you have to address the fact that our backcourt plays matador defense, thus increasing the need for a flyswatter in the frontcourt!
Houston trades: SF Glen Rice (9.0 ppg, 2.5 rpg, 1.1 apg in 24.7 minutes) SG Cuttino Mobley (17.5 ppg, 4.2 rpg, 2.9 apg in 41.7 minutes) PG Moochie Norris (4.3 ppg, 1.9 rpg, 2.4 apg in 16.8 minutes) PF Eddie Griffin (8.6 ppg, 6.0 rpg, 1.1 apg in 24.5 minutes) Houston receives: SG Eddie Jones (18.5 ppg, 4.8 rpg, 3.7 apg in 38.1 minutes) PF Brian Grant (10.3 ppg, 10.2 rpg, 1.3 apg in 32.2 minutes) Change in team outlook: -10.6 ppg, +0.4 rpg, and -2.5 apg. i was referencing this post.
but the problem is, I dont think we should take Eddie Jones as part of the package. Why, when u have Cat. Lets compare, Eddie is slightly better in scoring and passing. Eddie steals more, Cat's better 1 on 1 defender, but around the same overall defensively. Same in rebounds. However, Eddie makes twice as much and is injury prone. So why not just concentrate on Brian Grant, who has been almost totally healthy the last 3 years. Do Mo and Rice for Grant. They get younger, get scoring, and get cap relief. We get the banger we need. And this way u keep Cat and Eddie. Then u can to for Wesley Person, resign Posey and call it a day, or shop Cat and Eddie for a PG.
Actually Miami is a very-possible trading partner. Most trades nowadays involve 3 teams, and that's the direction I would go. Possibilities for that third team? Definitely Chicago. The Bulls desperately need veterans, just as we do. And the Bulls really wanted Eddie Jones a couple years back. Adding Eddie Jones to the Bulls would really help out that team, especially in the Leastern Conference. I believe we also looked into the possibility of acquiring Brian Grant or Shareef (or, rather, other teams offered them to us, probably in exchange for EG and a serving of Rice). Another third-team possibility? Dream-cast: Minnesota T-Wolves. The Wolves have many free agents, and still can't get anywhere, and have salary cap issues. Of course I could dreamcast any way to get Kevin Garnett. And yet Miami and Minnie talked of swapping Eddie Jones for Terrell Brandon so that the Heat would have cap room if Terrell retires.
I've been doing some thinking, and I think HeyDude is on target about Brian Grant. Taking on Grant mortgages our future, but Grant is one of the few players in an area of need that I'd be willing to do that for.
BGrant would be a great compliment to Yao in the post. Giving up Rice and Maddox or Taylor or pretty much any other back up for a tough PF would be worth it, though I'd prefer to keep Cato as his productivity for his minutes makes him one of the better back up centers in the league, though moving his salary may be required to equal the cost of grant for cap reasons. Grant can score just enough to keep teams honest in the paint and this trade wouldn't hurt our depth overmuch. Grant plays hard every night, if his shot isn't falling he just changes focus to Defense and boards. That would be a great example for your young guys. EJ would be a terrible target for us, we don't need his salary and he wouldn't improve the position for us. Any trades we make have got to improve the starting position on the floor significantly without wrecking our depth. EJ just doesn't fit the profile. Giving up a couple back ups for a starting PF.. now thats a good idea.
Grant and Jones have really bad contracts--it totally cuts their worth. I might go for the following: Houston trades: SF Glen Rice (9.0 ppg, 2.5 rpg, 1.1 apg in 24.7 minutes) C Kelvin Cato (4.5 ppg, 5.9 rpg, 0.3 apg in 17.1 minutes) SG Cuttino Mobley (17.5 ppg, 4.2 rpg, 2.9 apg in 41.7 minutes) Houston receives: SG Eddie Jones (18.5 ppg, 4.8 rpg, 3.7 apg in 38.1 minutes) PF Brian Grant (10.3 ppg, 10.2 rpg, 1.3 apg in 32.2 minutes) Change in team outlook: -2.2 ppg, +2.4 rpg, and +0.7 apg. Miami trades: SG Eddie Jones (18.5 ppg, 4.8 rpg, 3.7 apg in 38.1 minutes) PF Brian Grant (10.3 ppg, 10.2 rpg, 1.3 apg in 32.2 minutes) Miami receives: SF Glen Rice (9.0 ppg, 2.5 rpg, 1.1 apg in 62 games) C Kelvin Cato (4.5 ppg, 5.9 rpg, 0.3 apg in 73 games) SG Cuttino Mobley (17.5 ppg, 4.2 rpg, 2.9 apg in 73 games) Change in team outlook: +2.2 ppg, -2.4 rpg, and -0.7 apg. TRADE ACCEPTED No way would I include both EG and Cat--two guys with more value than Jones or Grant alone when you consider their contracts. Here is another possible one if they want Griffin, though I actually think the 1st one makes more sense for both teams..... Houston trades: SF Glen Rice (9.0 ppg, 2.5 rpg, 1.1 apg in 24.7 minutes) C Kelvin Cato (4.5 ppg, 5.9 rpg, 0.3 apg in 17.1 minutes) PG Moochie Norris (4.3 ppg, 1.9 rpg, 2.4 apg in 16.8 minutes) PF Eddie Griffin (8.6 ppg, 6.0 rpg, 1.1 apg in 24.5 minutes) Houston receives: SG Eddie Jones (18.5 ppg, 4.8 rpg, 3.7 apg in 38.1 minutes) PF Brian Grant (10.3 ppg, 10.2 rpg, 1.3 apg in 32.2 minutes) Change in team outlook: +2.4 ppg, -1.3 rpg, and +0.1 apg. Miami trades: SG Eddie Jones (18.5 ppg, 4.8 rpg, 3.7 apg in 38.1 minutes) PF Brian Grant (10.3 ppg, 10.2 rpg, 1.3 apg in 32.2 minutes) Miami receives: SF Glen Rice (9.0 ppg, 2.5 rpg, 1.1 apg in 62 games) C Kelvin Cato (4.5 ppg, 5.9 rpg, 0.3 apg in 73 games) PG Moochie Norris (4.3 ppg, 1.9 rpg, 2.4 apg in 82 games) PF Eddie Griffin (8.6 ppg, 6.0 rpg, 1.1 apg in 77 games) Change in team outlook: -2.4 ppg, +1.3 rpg, and -0.1 apg. TRADE ACCEPTED
I like Eddie Jones, he can bring a lot of things for this young players. But i still believe in Griff, i think the next season is "the" season for Griffin, if that wont happen you can start to put a new jersey on him. I preffer to give up on Nachbar before Griffin. Some sources says that the rockets preffer to send mobley+taylor.
LOL. "It's late." Or it's early! 3:35 AM. Wow...nothing else to do.......maybe sleep? That's important...
