This is why I can't see myself as part of either political party. Each one embraces these crazy nut cases.

But I am completely shocked by the level that Republicans have been influenced by it's ultra-conservative base.

A base that's not just out of touch with 80% of America, but 95% of the entire world. These people are so full of ignorance and bias they are a disservice to the democracy. They have weakened the Republican party and dragging it down...my hope is that these luny-cases are the last breath of everything that was wrong with the past before the country moves forward to be a more civil, respectable, and mature Republic.

We need a conservative party for balance - the two party system requries it. But right now, the Republican party - not just it's politicians, but it's constituients are in such delusional disarray that I have no clue how to fix it.

Very nice post. I keep hoping the party that had leaders like Senator Everett Dirksen in the past will somehow find its sanity.

Poll is a joke. I have heard many hardcore Republicans say many things about Obama, Acorn, and the election, but never once have I heard anyone say that he stole the election by himself or with anyones help. The poll seems to be more of a hack job by the other side. By the way if you know where to poll you can get the results you are looking for without fudging the numbers and still get enough people to make it relevant. Doesn't mean it actually represents an entire party, orginization, or country. The fact that pretty much everyone in this thread says they have not overheard someone say this, pretty much confirms how bogus the numbers are.

I posted this story on my facebook,

3 of my friends came forth and essentially said that it is a legitimate concern because Acorn "registered dead and fictional people and made them vote for Obama" .

quit doubting the poll and just look at your typical Palin/tea-*** rally. Those people are bat-$h!t insane, if they're willing to believe that the president is a muslim illegal alien pot head, then I don't think it's that big of a stretch for them to believe that he won the election illegitimately. After all, the republican joke of a party has done its best to disrespect the president and de-legitimize his office, ranging from the mighty teabag movement to "you lie!"..

I'm a Republican and know many Republicans. (yes we stupid evil people like to cluster together).

I don't know of anyone who thinks the election was stolen.

Looks like 9 percent of Democrats think it was stolen too. This is according to the same poll.

What is more likely here? That the poll is grossly flawed?

Or that most Republicans actually think the election was stolen by Acorn?

That a significant number of Democrats think it was stolen by Acorn?

Put your partisanship and biases aside for a moment and actually consider how outrageous and unrealistic the poll results are.

I am brought to mind of some similar thread where something like 25 percent(?) of the GOP thought that Obama was the Anti Christ - and how a lot of people on this board just attributed it to stupid, Republican Christians.

If Republicans were actually as insane and stupid as you claim, you should get out quickly for your own safety. Any nation where 30-40 percent of the people are as incompetent as you claim would surely crumble.

30% is very optimistic. 40%? No way.

And it's only a little over half of those that are necessarily stupid or insane, judging by polls on an Iraq-9/11 connection, Obama's nationality and religion and this latest poll about the legitimacy of the election.

That amounts to a max of 15% of Americans that are obviously stupid or insane, judging by the polls. That's not enough to **** up the country; it's only enough to **** up your party.

I was sort of including the "anyone who did not vote for Obama must be an a-hole" categorizations.

Hello? Read the poll. It asks if ACORN stole the election, not influenced it. I think anyone with a sense of reality knows ACORN didn't steal it, but on the same token, these same people won't deny that ACORN didn't have some type of voter fraud. Both sides has their share of voter fraud. Every election does.

The only interesting part of the AKORN!11!! phenomenon is the hotwire link to voting rights issues in the southern United States. These issues, in which people were beaten and even killed for trying to register black citizens for the vote, are not so distant in the past, and as the BBC recently profiled, many cases are still being prosecuted, bringing criminal parties to justice some 40 years after the events.

To deny the similarities of sentiments in "oh my god we can't possibly trust them to vote -- er, I mean to register properly" is really to put your head in the sand abit.

Now, did I say all AKORN!11!! alarmists are racists, waiting to kill black people? Not at all. Absolutely not. But the irrational fear has similar roots, IMHO. Otherwise, it is a completely uncanny coincidence that people could blow such an insignificant and ineffectual group like AKORN!11!! into an issue worthy of two minutes.

As I said to my father recently, if you look at AKORN's real influence and national budget, compared to many other non-profits geared to registration, you realize very quickly what a tiny molehill they really are. As I told him, "your son's podunk university wins more than AKORN in federal funding. God forbid the podunk university gets the same scrutiny."

yeah, but the republican party knows its only hope for the immediate future is supressing the vote. they are almost automatic winners in low turnout races.

I said it earlier, but I think it bears repeating. Other than a surprising result, what makes you think this poll is bs? It's a reputable pollster that provided information about who they polled and what they asked.

I'd imagine the margin of error on the Republican number for that question is pretty large, but I don't see any reason to discount the result that nearly half of self-identified Republicans responded "Acorn stole the election" when given that option versus "Obama won legitimately".

This is the only thing that really ever needs to be said whenever acorn comes up. There is no evidence of any actual voter fraud taking place.

Registering fake voters != fake votes.

    Stop the madness already.

I'm actually not so sure why people are having a hard time believing this - if maybe 1/3 of voters are republican, the fact that half of those people are hard core Obama haters in denial only shakes out to around 15% of the electorate

This thread is sounding like a come-to-Jesus confessional for conservatives to admit they don't like Obama but have never, ever, ever, ever heard anyone in their circle of believers say he stole the election.

Step on up and loosen your lips and free your soul...
