another one of our friends was let go yesterday. she made it through tuesday, so she thought she was safe. turns out there was a glitch that left her off the list tuesday and when she showed up for work yesterday, her name wasn't on the roster. way to go chron!

The following email just came through at work. I work in a place where we have the option of doing a payroll deduction for the newspaper subscription at a discount.

    Excerpt:

"(place of business) has received information the Houston Chronicle’s subscription rate will be increasing. The current subscription rate of $8.50 will increase to $13.00 effective April 1, 2009. Beginning with your first paycheck in April the payroll deduction will increase from $4.25 to $6.50 per check.

Even with this increase the payroll deduct program saves you $7.00 per month from the regular monthly subscription rate."

Now I am going to have to do the math, but but I guess I will keep it.

The one day of the week I flat out don't care about the paper at all is Thursday. Every other day there is at least a Fry's ad or the Tech section on Tuesdays (but no Fry's). And the Sunday ads are beginning to pay for themselves with coupons and such, pinching pennies and all that.

Just thought it was interesting to receive such a notice the day after the layoffs at the local pink rag.
