I would say innovation in said countries are extremely high as long as human resource/technology aren't an issue. Worse innovation overall is due to poor available tech/education and a corrupt entrepreneurial economy, not IP/piracy theft. Usually the creation of ideas comes in the US, but fast evolution of product outside of the US.

The app market in the US itself is a great example. Like you said, IP laws are screwy and institutions are great at patenting everything, forming oligopolies, and shutting out small time guys. Apps have been an area where IP doesn't really apply, and you've seen such an amazing speed of change and fair-playing field in the last four years or so because of it.

Encryption. Set it to forced in your torrent tracker.

Crazy to think why i have 500 GB portable Harddrive...its just to neatly categorize the word documents that ive complied over the years...

Laptops, tablets, etc etc...all have provide us with "space"...and with the space, all most have done is download, share, and compile mountains and mountains of songs, movies, games, etc...

As quickly as this law goes into effect, the world of piracy will quickly find a new way to circumvent it...

PS i can bet that most offenders of piracy are often between the ages of 15-27...

Yup, they'll be going for easy bait on places like Pirate Bay, etc. All public trackers for dummies who don't know how to mask their downloading. Not worried at all since I'm on all private sites. I rarely download anymore though, just music mostly.

I have a site for streaming movies that I use to watch any movie in theaters in somewhat decent quality, and released movies that are in great quality as well as tv episodes. I have a site that streams every sports game from here to china. I watch streaming p*rn. All for free. I don't seed or torrent. And you know what,

It's been over a week now...anyone been popped yet?

I've downloaded a few torrents (obscure stuff) but nothing that would attract any attention...YET.

I won't lie and say that I'm not hesitant to download torrents with this new policy in play.

Yup. They're aiming for the casual torrenters.

I've used private torrent sites like revolutiontt.me and I've received copyright infringement notices from my VPN service for downloading some tv shows. The VPN service basically told me not to do it again.

They send you an email about the warning?

I use the HMA VPN service, and the actual VPN sent me email warnings. In the email it said, HMA VPN was just forwarding the infringement notice they received from whoever complained I was downloading the tv show. HMA VPN said they have no proof that I downloaded any show, but my IP address came up as the place from where the download originated. HMA VPN basically told me that I might get booted from their service if they receive further complaints. This was back in December and I haven't received any further complaint emails.

There is approximately one billion hours of amateur p*rn floating around the net, 95% of it is eyeball melting bad, but 5% is almost on par with the pros. For those people who refuse to buy p*rn, the decent 5% of amateur will always be available.

And the reason the ultimate punishment for all this is having your connection throttled is because the state doesn't have the resources to stop it, not without revealing things they'd rather not admit to. That's why Hollywood has pressured providers into becoming rent a cops, because the Government has told them to buzz off and deal with it themselves.

Lastly, the big offenders are download addicts. They probably watch/listen/play less than 10% of what they acquire. This is why all those numbers tossed out by Hollywood don't seem to be hurting their bottom line, because 90% of the downloading is being done by 10% of the downloaders.

It's important to remember that that the Movie industry is the most fail proof industry in America. It's not a question of whether they will make billions in profits, only whether they will break last year's record, which they always do.

So, what's the consensus now that this has been implemented for 4 months? Anybody received a warning from a big ISP? Any safe alternatives?

I support piracy because it's made me a smarter consumer. I can download an album and if I like it enough, I'll purchase it. If I'm not a fan then I won't and I'll delete it. I can't afford HBO but I love Game of Thrones for instance. I've pirated all the seasons. I get the latest episode at least an hour after it just aired. Know what I did though? I bought the first and second season box sets because I was that much of a fan and I'm glad I did. You may argue, "But HBO lost subscription money from your piracy! It's not fair!", to which I retort, they got more money from me thanks to piracy than they ever would have because like I said I can't afford HBO monthly.

Or another example. Youtube let me stumble upon a band I like now called mr Gnome. I listened to quite a few of their songs for free and know what I did? I went to Amazon and digitally purchased their albums. Thanks piracy. You gave a talented band more exposure than they had before for free and some money in their accounts that they never would have had.

Exactly. Piracy increases exposure and profits in a lot of cases.

My significant other got a three warnings just last week for downloading True Blood. She is living at home with her parents and they were freaking out over them and wanted her to call the ISP and apologize. I told her to just delete the material and send an email to their customer service acknowledging the warnings and that she wouldn't do it again.
