A bunch of schools do this, I think Michigan as some really dubious titles. Anyway, I'm going to go and start awarding some Wikipedia retroactive NC's.
hahahaha!!!!!! the way alabama scores national championships, they'll skip 13 and 14 and go straight to 15 if they finish next year with a winning record. now i know you're joking.
If it happens, I could see this being another situation where he is named Offensive Coordinator, and Greg Davis is named assistant head coach, or vice versa. The assistant head coach position seems to be one thrown around a lot to help expand coaching staffs with perceived coaching talent. So, if it goes down, I don't know that we'd see Major as the rb coach as much as a co-coordinator, or some other switch in job titles. We'll see....

It's not normal at all, but the Texans also promoted Kyle Shanahan to QB's coach last summer after playing as and coaching WRs in the past. It is definitely a demotion, but rumblings at Bama say that there is zero guarantee that Major will be their OC after next season. Saban also isn't the most personal guy out there, especially compared to Mack.
I remember hearing a radio interview in which Applewhite said he would love to coach the Aggies so he could take it to the Longhorns every year. He was bitter about being benched. But I guess it wasn't that big of a deal in the end. Muschamp+Applewhite=amazing moves IMO
http://bbs.clutchfans.net/showpost.php?p=3357676&postcount=13 Maybe if you keep repeating it enough it will become true!
I was going to say that this is the 2nd time Ziggy has posted that and I've yet to see anything remotely close to that being true. It's all they're talking about on Austin sports radio right now and you'd think that would have been mentioned if true. Not saying Ziggy is lying, but he is an Aggie...the most delusional fans on earth.
I posted it again to see if anyone could confirm it this time. I was interested in seeing some hard proof. Maybe I am crazy. Also... I am the least Aggiest Aggie in Aggie history. Trust me.
Coaches regularly coach positions they didn't play or have experience in. For example, steelers coach Mike Tomlin was a wide receiver in college, coached DB's in the pros, then went to DC to HC. Former Longhonrns DC Greg Robinson was an OC at UCLA for a year. The Longhorns outgoing RB coach, Ken Rucker played DL and was a Defensive line coach before he went to RB's....etc.
Major will be the next head coach at UT. I think both Applewhite and the poster would do a great job. With the latter, we'd get a lot of cool trick plays and going for it on 4th down!
"Major Applewhite has accepted a job as Texas running backs coach and will be introduced as Mack Brown’s newest assistant, perhaps as soon as Thursday morning, a source familiar with the negotiations said Wednesday morning." Welcome Home Major!! http://www.statesman.com/blogs/cont...bohls/entries/2008/01/16/applewhite_acce.html
I thought they weren't allowed to announce until tomorrow afternoon due to minimum posting rules. Either way, this was a foregone conclusion. Welcome back to Austin, Major Applewhite...the next head coach for the University of Texas.
but alabama has so much more tradition and has been around so much longer and has 38, err.... 39 national championships! Applewhite needs to give the SEC their dues!
