I'm just happy we're getting some new assistants with Rocket ties.

    options are all good

Mario - great story - tough motivator - champion
Lucas - great motivator - warm style - talent scout
Calvin - good motivator - warm style - skills development
Clyde - umm... fell on his face with UH. Would be good story if he could use his knowledge to help Yao and Tmac, and more importantly - the supporting cast.
Kenny - good talker, don't know if he has the skills to help others.

Looks like Deke is big man coach. Wish Yao was getting some high post skills too. All in all, though, whatever - it's good JVG is showing he's open to improving his circle of advisors for the team. Really - that's great news. Would love to see someone like Del as assistant for x/o (offense) and time outs, too.

What about Rick Barry. Maybe Jon put in a good word for his old man. There's not many people as knowledgable about the game of basketball than Rick Barry. I'd love to see an infusion of (talented) youth to this Rockets core. We went from one of the yougest teams in the NBA to one of the oldest in the span of two years. I'm sure that was meant to be a stop gap measure. Now it's time to bring in some guys who are atheletes in the mold of Josh Howard, Marquis Daniels, Manu Ginobli, Joe Johnson, and Q-Rich.

We'll need to get longer and more explosive in the backcourt and at the 4.

i would love to horry to be signed as our backup PF. he gives us everything we need. defense, shooting range, IQ, even some shot blocking.

he won't sign with us unless he thinks we are going to seriously contend next year.

Horry needs to go to another contending team -- perhaps Miami -- to get two more rings. Then he would have matching finger rings for each hand -- Houston, L.A., S.A. and the fourth winner ring.

However, that's all he is allowed. Thumbs don't do manual labor, i.e., carry stuff, like lowly fingers do. :D

Could the new assistant be John Lucas?

Because they aren't. There was a pretty well-known article written about their relationship in Sports Illustrated in the 1990s. I'll try to look it up.

That's pretty interesting cause all the talk when Rick Barry was doing some commentation on sports radio he always says he was rooting for San Antonio and Houston because of his sons. Maybe it was just to save face and be nice about it and not say anything. But i have never heard anything about it either.

he was at the SA - Houston game this year holding some gradkids, so he must have some kind of relationship with one of his kids !

I've always wondered about that. What, did he get faster after he retired?

man i hope the former rocket isnt Calvin. Kevin Willis seems like a possobility if we are talking about a big man coach.

or maybe "two sanwhiches" Thomas Hamilton

    How about Larry Smith?

I doubt he has a place on Jackson's bench in LA.

Then why would he come to Houston to watch them play each other as he did earlier in the season?
