Maybe Wagner has found God, and he doesn't believe it very God-like to steal money from his employers.
I think the PC is called for 6:00. My speculation is it has something to do with the naming rights to the stadium. I read a few days ago that Drayton wanted to have the new deal in place by the end of April. So this would be a major announcement for him. CK Edit-- They have released a report on Miller. see it here: http://houston.astros.mlb.com/NASAp...020419&content_id=11245&vkey=pr_hou&fext=.jsp
I would think that too if the press release didn't already say that the conference will NOT be about naming rights
Apparently, according to our friend todd the bod on AstrosConnection, it may be to announce that the Astros are retiring Dierker's number. That would make sense, although not quite the exciting news I was hoping for. Keep in mind this is not definite, just another possibility.
Maybe it's about concessions prices...apparently they released some information on that comparing their prices to other venues in the area.
Hate quoting myself , but if this Dierker jersey retirement thing is true...well, like I said, not so major.
Class move by the organization. Anytime you retire somebody's number it's a big deal. Also, Wade's injury doesn't appear too serious; that's VERY good news.
Maybe they're hiring Davy Lopes to be a fielding coach for Lugo. I dont' care how many times you call Everett a slick fielding SS, he's not the answer for us at that position. I used to be one of the people who said that even if I knew ahead of time that Freddy Garcia and John Halama would have become good pitchers, I still would have pulled the trigger on the Randy Johnson deal. But now, with Carlos Guillen off to a hot start, I think we would have been better off not taking that deal. Ah well, you can't change the past.
The past two years have seen Lugo put up slightly better numbers both hitting and fielding (SS) than Guillen. Guillen will likely settle into a .270-.280 range. 51 At Bats shouldn't make you start regretting what was a good trade (for both teams).
While IMO Dierker is about as good a representative as you can find for everything Astro, from his inteligence and good spirit, to his wonderfull pitching career, to his equaly wonderfull broadcasting stint, to his somewhat less successfull, but nonetheless noteworthy managing career, the timing of this move seems kinda lame. It almost seems like they're saying, "Oops, we realize now that you actually did a pretty good job for us, and we probably screwed you a bit. Our bad. Hope this makes you feel better."
Why is admiiting your mistakes a bad thing? Can you imagine Steinbrenner doing something like this? It took him 15 years to acknowledge Yogi Berra after he fired him.
