Wow that is a big contract... well, that makes me feel good that we locked him up early.

Is it 73 mil if he does play 6 years.. 12.167 mil a year average...

or is it 73 for 5 years.. plus whatever for the 6th...

Is it the teams option or player option?

Just curious.. glad the deal is done!

Nice work. They absolutely needed to close the deal on keeping Roy O, and they stepped up and got it done. Not a bad price either.

Roy is pretty emotional. Good for him, he deserves this.

Now we can never say Drayton doesn't spend money...This is a SPLASH!!!

Good for Roy and good for the team...I wish he would have gotten the win today, but hey, there are $73MM reasons for him to not care...I actually got to see the game on FSN up here in Dallas, although the news conference got hosed and couldn't hear/see crap...

Is it 5 Years for $X and the 6th Year option making it $73MM? Just curious...

    Listening to 610...

It appears to be a player option for the 6th year.

Good job by Drayton and Tim Purpura to get this deal done.

Those first 5 years add up a little less than 73 mil at that rate, but I'm guessing they aren't exactly those even numbers so they end up at 73.

So it is 5 years for 73 mil.. plus 16 mil for the 6th year.. up to 89 mil?

Nice to see Drayton appears to have learned from letting all those good pitchers walk in the 90's. Hampton, Kile, Portugal, etc..

For my money, Oswalt is the best pitcher in the game and key to our future. Very glad we're keeping him. I don't think I could have stomached watching him pitch for another team.

isn't that more than pujols got? i mean i'm glad that we locked him up and other pitchers have gotten some huge deals, but that still seems weird. of course, at most we could've knocked to it down a mill or two a year and it's not really even worth it to risk the negotations going bad. good to have him for the foreseeable future.

I wish I had .gif or .mpg of that "swing" Pujols had against Roy in Game 6. It was asesome to see the greatest hitter of his generation flail like a 2nd grader. My respect for Roy shot up even higher that second. It was Pujols's first AB since the Lidge bomb. Awesome.

Ok, not I see why the numbers earlier didn't reach 73 exactly.

It seems like it is 5 years for 71 million and 2 million dollar buyout for 6th year =73 mil

    or

5 years for 71 mil plus 16 mil for 6th year to equal 87 mil.

    5 years 73 or 6 for 87.. I'm happy with that deal :)

Oh and I meant now I see why the numbers didn't add up before... have to figure in the buyout.

That might be Roy O's last contract. I think he had indicated he might retire after another 5-6 seasons. Now he can retire in style. Get some spinners for the tractor.
