Morey's answer: "Y'all heard what I told Scola right?"

You know, with Dallas repositioning cap room and the play of the rokkies in Vegas...I'm ready to tell the Magic to suck it. Keep Howard poisoning your locker room and leave the anvil over the franchise's head. Enjoy that payroll with Turk, Baby, Nelson, Redick, and JR making a combined ~$36M for their bench-level play.

We can play the kids, nab a high pick, keep Toronto's, keep Dallas', and have obscene cap space next year.

Morey will just going to give typical Morey responses, "love the guys we have, always looking to improve our team" blah blah. Not going to show any cards.

From another thread where I decided to weigh in on the whole Howard thing. Waxing poetic!

The waiting game ensues. Orlando is hoping some other suitor appears to drive up the price. It has been reported that they may wait until the trade deadline to make a decision. I don't know whether to be happy about that or not. However I do not believe they will be willing to roll the dice and start camp with Howard on the roster. At that point things could get really ugly.

Nothing was going to happen until Asik was signed. This whole Howard thing has been totally FUBAR'ed so far. I truly have no idea where it is going. The Magic waited until 4 days before the draft to hire a GM. So absolutely nothing good was going happen. Hennigan did not even have his first conversation with Howard until after the draft. The Magic organization and their fan base probably both need a serious dose of Xanax. Are we going to see an entire franchise melt down?

On the other hand the whole shenanigans puts Morey and the Rockets in the drivers seat. The Rockets have more than enough assets to make a deal happen. But it looks to me, with all the odd leaks coming from the Magic's organization, that Orlando is in complete disarray. The Magic are between a rock and a hard place and have no exit strategy. This is not going to end well.

The Rockets on the other hand are sitting on a tipping point. Go for the gold with Howard (yes he makes that much of a difference) or tank? Without Howard they march into the season primed to tank. They will also have the money next summer to try and get 2 max contract players. With Howard, Morey has his work cut out for him. The Rockets would need to surround Howard with much more proven talent. In math language this is a np-hard challenge. No telling where it is going to go.

I've got a bad feeling about this. Maybe Hennigan finally convinced Dwight to stay in Orlando.

I really doubt the Magic keep him without him signing an extension. The fans will boo the hell out of him, the franchise will basically implode if he's in a Magic uniform come the start of the season. Who in their organization is going to trust Dwight saying he "might" re-up at this point?

    More speculation blah blah blah.

Those tweets remind me of what SheridanPhoops said. "Source: Looks like it's all coming to a head. Dwight situation will be resolved today."

    Yeah, ok.

they're just flingin sh** at the wall. we officially have Asik now and most talking heads think that was the last hurdle to jump before we could make a trade. so they post something safe and vague and if nothing big happens, they can play it off and save face.

No reason for Houston to force the issue. We are the team with cap flexibility, picks, and young talent. Orlando has a disgruntled star, with bad contracts and little youth.

I am perfectly fine passing on Howard if we can't come to a reasonable agreement. Other than cleaning up the glut at PF a little (one of DMo, Patterson, White, or Jones needs to go), we have a well built team, with both proven and potential talent.

I just don't get what Hennigan is doing. If he's waiting for a better deal it ain't happening and no team will offer more at the trade deadline b/c Orlando will be hard pressed to get rid of him for anything considering he's not resigning. Also, besides rockets or Lakers who else is even negotiating with them. Cleveland's deal was laughable.

It doesn't hurt them to wait. Orlando loses nothing if they keep him till training camp starts, and don't lose much (possible chemistry issues, reps for Orton) if they wait to deal him until the start of the season. But we do lose something. We need as much time with Howard as possible to build relationships with him and integrate him into our O and D schemes.

In the meantime, a lot of good things could happen for them. They know we want him as soon as possible, so we might up our offer to resolve this quickly. Another suitor might enter the chase. The new coach and front office might be able to reconcile with Dwight. They gain nothing by moving immediately, and I could easily see this dragging on another month.

    Poor Magic.

The obvious move for Howard is to re-commit to the Magic and give it "one more shot" to avoid a Houston trade, then subsequently demand a trade to the Nets at the deadline.

If Hennigan is dumb enough to fall for that without Howard's name on the dotted line of an extension, he deserves what he gets.
