I eat at the ninfas on kirby but the only thing I ever get is the chimichanga. They butter that tortilla so much that when you eat it, it tastes more like a meat filled pastry than a fried burrito. Yum
I think RocketManTex may have had a temporary brain fart due to old age because I expect he would be one of the few people on here to know that. The only "ninfa's" still owned by the Lorenzo family is El Tiempo. It's expensive and strangely a meat market (in the pick up sense), but they still have that good green sauce that Ninfa Lorenzo made famous, and IMHO, the best fajitas, homemade corn tortillas, and queso in town. But their enchiladas and other tex-mex can be hit or miss.
I know the family doesn't own Ninfas on Nav anymore, but the location still serves awesome TexMex staples such as cheese enchiladas. I also love El Tiempo, but they are far better at the grilled items. The deluxe mixed grill is one of the best meals you can order in Houston.
Oh I'm not berating the Ninfa's on Navigation, although they have a problem being hit or miss as well, but sitting outside on that patio (when they are "on" and the weather is nice) is an awesome Houston experience. They are light years beyond the chain Ninfa's. But man how I miss the Ninfa's back in the day when Ninfa herself still ran them. Back in highschool in the early to mid-eighties, my buddy and I used to slip out for lunch once a week, go have a few ninfaritas and a beef fajita India, and come back for fourth period with a nice buzz. Good times. I think she already had at least one foot out the door (restaurant-wize) at that time, but they quality hadn't dropped off yet.
El Tiempo is about 2 minutes from me on Washington, and their crunchy Taco's are freaking huge, and the beef with potatoes in it...pure sex. I usually get it to go and they package everything separate so the shells don't get soggy and so you can make it how you want it. Big fan.
Oh man, they come in waves these days! Thank you for correcting me, kind sir. Yes I did know that. I think my brain got temporarily stuck in the 90s yesterday....
I know it's chic for everyone to like Ninfa's on Navigation, but the last few times I went there it wasn't much better than our local Los Cucos. Para las margaritas were mucho y muy bueno...
That's so weird when clutchfans becomes a source. We should start more rumors, and then get paid to be 'anonymous sources.'
Screw Maggie Rita's, Mencia will never get a dime from me. I second the Lopez on Wilcrest vote...love their queso. Never had the original Navigation Ninfa's (grew up in southwest side of town) will have to check out sometime.
