No I wasn't referring to a "big" FA, but I meant, that Steve had bigger offers elsewhere, yet he chose Houston. So your statement about players not wanting to come to Houston since Stro Swift doesn't quite add up.
At least try. I guess he won't bite either. Still, the biggest difference is in SA he'll have to play around "the big 3", whereas in Houston he is, part of "the big 3". so theres our biggest drawcard...
I'm pretty sure he lives in Houston during the offseason. What better way to enjoy the $30 mil Portland paid him to get lost than to just stay at home and not worry about a damn thing?
How lucrative are these deals anyway? And I'm pretty sure Nike has Maggette on some sort of player contract.
It's astonishing that some people are so blind that they refuse to believe that Houston is still far behind the elite teams.Making a gesture would have been nice ala Lewis, but it's obvious why he would prefer SA over us.
What are you talking about?!?!? Corey Maggette would be apart of the BIG 3 in Houston. That's a whole lot better than being apart of the BIG 4 in San Antonio because c'mon...BIG 4?!?! That can NEVER EVER happen.
If it is really about the money, and it usually is, don't you think he would want an extra $2 million a year from a shoe deal? Houston is an attractive destination because of Yao Ming.....and his China connection. DD
I'm not trying to be an ass, DD but where are you getting these numbers from? I'm very intrigued as to what Battier, Hayes, and Scola got for their deals.
Maggette may not want to be part of the big 3 with an unreliable unhealthy Yao and Tracy. He can come off their bench and run with Ginobili and Parker while Duncan anchors the defense.
I am making the numbers up, they are all relative, and negotiable...but players like Lebron earn millions a year from shoe deals. So, I would assume that Maggette can get a very lucrative deal here too.....certainly not in the Lebron/Kobe stratosphere, but because of Yao and his connections more than he would get elsewhere. DD
I found it googling...and it was from an old thread here: Six to Seven Figures Which isn't bad at all.
Imagine him getting $1.5 million a year EXTRA....if that is not a big advantage over San Antonio and Boston, then I don't know what is.... DD
"I'm just going to randomly state the reason someone came here for less pay and drift offtopic" Obv every player has their own reasons...whatever Francis' reasons may be, he did take a pay cut to come here. which proves my point that there was at least one player since Stro that came here for less financial benefits. Bonzi may be another one although I'm not sure on that
That excerpt says exactly the same things I'm saying; that he looks for his own offense, doesn't pass well and wouldn't fit into Adelman's offense; all reasons why I can imagine the front office isn't terrifically high on him. In addition, he's not a 6th man. He definitely didn't take well to the role this past year, and the Rockets don't have the Alpha Dog to make him buy in; If Hell froze over and he came to the Rockets, he'd be a 35 mpg starter. If you want my personal opinion of Corey Maggette, I believe that he would be a tremendous pickup for the MLE, because I do believe that what he brings to the table vastly outweighs the on-court baggage and adjustment period his style of game would require, and he's a guy of high character off the court. That being said, I'm going "PTI Odds" on him landing in Houston at -12% for many of the reasons that have already been stated here; I have still yet to hear a real reason why Houston is such an attractive FA location; San Antonio or LA has the "get us over the hump" angle, Boston has the "World Champions" angle, Orlando has the "sentimental" angle. Houston has the "chance to change the shoes you've worn for 10 years in order to make an unspecified amount of money". Given these odds, I'm ok with laying low on Corey Maggette, and not spend crucial time putting together video packages showing how he'd fit in, flying down to his offseason home, making mockups of his jersey and other time-wasting crap. They should be the ones at Brent Barry or Mo Evans' door as SA or Orlando run off to chase after Maggette; they should be setting up the summer league and getting the top undrafted free agents left on their board; they should be spending all that time they would waste on Corey with repairing their relationship with Carl Landry. Free Agency is an embodiment of "If you ain't First, you're Last". If you're second on everyone's list, you still lose to they guy who picked who he'd chase strategically.
