You know, after hearing the reasons why Daryl Morey didn't particularly like CDR in the draft, I can't say I'd be surprised if this was true. In my limited time watching Corey Maggette play, he certainly seems like a ball-stopper, tends to post a rather Bonzi Wells-esque 1-1 Assist to TO ratio throughout his career.

Obviously, for the MLE, he's a steal, but really, I can't name a single reason why Corey would sign with the Rockets over any other playoff contender (honestly, try it yourself), so I'm OK with getting the jump on other targets as most of the other contenders wine and dine him.

    Agreed.

I mean...IF THE SPURS CAN GET HIM WITH 3 STARS ALREADY WHY CAN'T WE GET HIM? I'm sure he'd like to be a major contributor to the success here in Houston where he'll have seriously earned it...

So the Spurs went after him with passionate words huh...smart move by SA but, can't Morey do the same? We seriously need to pursue Maggette...Sign him ASAP

Is Morey AGGRESSIVELY pursuing anyone other than a 37 year old guard? I love Barry, but his market isn't very large so we need to focus our efforts on players like Maggette who has all the choices in the world...

Ok...this is why I think we desperately need Maggette, especially at the bargain price of the MLE:

I quote from an article from Fran Blinebury on this summer's free agents:

Just look all that. Its straight from Fran's mouth. I hope thats enough reasons for the doubters to believe that we need Maggette.

Rockets: Hey Corey, do you wanna still get your 22ppg? Oh yeah you'll be the legit 3rd star for us and you're be part of the focus of our offense. You'll play a big role in our championship run and be part of this dream we share.

Spurs: hey we'll just give you the ball when manu, tony and timmy gets tired ok? just stay in the corner right there and stretch that defender away from the post. you'll be totally fine...no harm, no pain, oh and your token ring too, you can have that buddy as your reward...

Forget Maggette. He is worthless. And I am not exaggerating.

    WORTHLESS.

Moot point anyways. No way we'll be able to offer him what he wants, or even anything remotely close.

    LMAO

It makes me wonder if Morey is talking to potential SG/SF and saying

"you know Tmac is only good for 70 games a year and if we have you on the squad he will miss another 7 or 8 with tooth aches or menstrual cramps. You will get at least 20 starts out of that. you will get your minutes and get just enough starts to keep you eligible for 6th man of the year."

And if he isn't he should be.

What's funny is that people on here think Maggette would just be ANOTHER bench player for the Spurs. There's a reason why he's leaning towards signing with the Spurs and it's called "interest". He knows he'll play a crucial role on their team (especially after watching how the Spurs can't score a bucket on the road during the playoffs) and he'll still get his.

If Maggette wanted to come to Houston, the news would say "Maggette leaning towards signing with Houston" instead of "Maggette leaning towards signing with San Antonio". Which brings up another point: We overvalue this team and this city to the point where everyone thinks "[Insert player here] would rather go to Houston than to SA, or LA, or Boston" but who was the last "big" FA signing we had? Stromile Swift?

    Spurs: Join a DYNASTY

Rockets: Umm...maybe win 1st round while everyone is injured.

Let's get real. That way, not everyone's panties are in a wad when he isn't signed. If he is, GREAT. If not, move on. No need to whine and bash management for something that is a long shot.

He may or may not have interest in signing here, but Morey should make it clear that if he did, he would be a starter......and a significant contributor right away....

which is what pretty much any GM in the NBA can tell him. Hey, I don't mind if Morey decides to throw the Rockets into the hat too along w/ the Spurs and the Celtics. But lets get real here: if you were a player who had zero ties to this city and were looking for the best chance to win a ring after spending years and years sucking it up in Clipperland, where would you go with contracts and playing time all equal--Boston, Houston, or San Antonio? If anyone can honestly say "Houston!" then they need to take off the blinders.

If we offered Maggette our full MLE, we would want to keep it a secret from Landry. So, shh! everybody!

You know what? It just depends, he may like the opportunities that playing with Yao get you....like a MUCH BETTER SHOE DEAL......

He may want to be a guaranteed starter...again....Houston fits the bill there.

I am just saying.....toss the danged hat in the ring to see...

Are you serious? Which one are you referring to: The rookie, that sat crying on Draft Night and demanded a trade, that we TRADED for years ago or the washed up veteran who was playing on one knee from last year? If you're talking about the former, then need to brush up on your history. If you're talking about the latter, you and I have very differing opinions on what a "big" free agent signing is.
