if one more person tries to side against cuttino in favor of max by mentioning shot selection, they should have their heads removed as they clearly have no further use for them. wasn't maxwell the king of bad shot selection at times. there is no way he isn't at least equal to cat in this respect. also, using a barkley snippet where he was trying to be funny doesn't close the book on the D argument. especially when one considers the great defender barkley was (of course the comment is damn funny). also, saying all cuttino does is jack up shots is stupid. when you can actually hit shots AND are only one of two people (or 3 if you count kenny) who actually has offensive talent on your team, then you get to and should shoot a lot. his field goal percentage is not bad and was quite good after his ankles healed (47% is very good for SG's). also, pointing out glory moments like the 3 against the knicks and saying what has cuttino done, all we do is go to the lottery is stupid. put cuttino on a team with dream in his prime and maybe you can talk. i'm pretty sure we wouldn't be talking about the great madmax who led us to the playoffs if he played with this horrific frontcourt. another argument on the clutchness, how many times was max asked to create his own shot in the clutch and how many times was it created for him. more often than not i remember him receiving a pass not having to do it on his own like cat. of course it still takes someone special to have that much ice water in the veins like max. cuttino will have to hit more shots to equal vernon in this respect (not that he hasn't hit quite a few, also if we actually get some talent and start winning there will be more opportunities). also, let the nostalgia go if you wanna make a rational argument here. hell, i love every player that was ever on our championship teams (i even still like horry as he continually breaks my heart with the lakers) but you can't just use that to side with those players no matter what. if cat was on our team instead of maxwell he would've been an even greater outside threat than max w/o the streakiness. now on D, i'm sure even accounting for the Dream factor, max would win, but stop acting like cat doesn't try. the only time he gets beat consistenly is by the taller two's who shoot over him, not b/c they burn him to the basket.
It must be a lot of youngsters on this board. I think and has said they are duplicates of each other. The only reason why a young Vernon didn't score 20 is because Hakeem was there. That being said, Max looks like a much poorer defender because he doesn't have Hakeem behind him. People said and Vernon also that he would and could lock Jordan up, when he left and went to play for philly, MJ dropped 50 on his head. It helps when Hakeem is behind you as opposed to Cato and his 1.3 bpg. Maxwells best yr scoring in Houston was 17pts per which is cool. Cats best was this yr at 21pts or so, but the team really sucked also. I don't ever remember the rockets under .500 when max played so it works both ways. I would just give a slight edge to max, but i still like cat too.
You say MJ dropped 50 on maxwell when Max was on Philly. Are you saying that Mad Max was not a good defender back then on the Rockets? I never saw Max against MJ back in the 90's when Max was a rocket, but are you saying that the only reason he shut down MJ was because of Olajuwon? Just wondering.
