You're r****ded. Vince beat OU once. As the article says, the 02 class was one of the best classes ever and led to the 2004,05 teams being flat out amazing. 1 guy can't win a championship. Thir results havn't been equal at all. They've lost the last 5 BCS bowls they've been in. That's equal to you? 3-0 is better than 2-5 You would take a 0-5 record
I dont know exactly how I would argue it as far as who the better coach is, but how about bob stoops' 6 big 12 titles to mack brown's 1? Thats gotta be a factor in the discussion.
I would take the OU program/coach over UT Bob may not win them like he used to , but to his credit they make it to the big games!
Did you even watch the game? The defense was not that good. They did get that critical stop in the 4th, but the trojans were moving the ball. If there was a game where one guy carried a team that was it. I don't know how long you have been a fan, but the number of times mack would lose against lesser opponents was frustrating. Do you know how many times mack has won the big 12? or been the championship game?
Vince was unstoppable in that game but the team won 12 games previously on the backs of all Texas players. They don't just let you play in the championship game because you have a good quarterback. As I said earlier, OU has gotten further more often but they've embarrassed themselves by losing to lower ranked teams and sometimes being blown out all but 2 of those games. More people know OU from those loses than their win 9 years ago.
For teams in the top 5 all the time, they almost always are losing to lesser opponents because that's who they primarily play. Pete Carroll, Bob Stoops, Urban Meyer, etc all lose to lesser opponents. Can you name a coach that doesn't?
Bob Stoops just isn't as scary without Mike Stoops and Mark Mangino on the sidelines with him. I never thought about the recruiting class, but Stoops' coaching staff has been raided over and over, while Mack's keeps getting better.
Yes, Stoops has more conference titles than Mack 6 to 1 and ultimately that is the indicator of a better coach. However it is undeniable that 5 years ago a comparison between the two would have been silly. No one would take Mack over Stoops especially in the RRS. Mack was coming off 5 straight humiliating losses to Stoops. He was on the hot seat among fans. Since then he has held his own with Stoops in every category except conference titles. Either Stoops' coaching has regressed or Mack's coaching has gotten better.
Umm newsflash, but being a great head coach has very little to do with Xs and Os. That's for coordinators. As far as VY goes, guess what *IS* an important aspect of a college football head coach? Recruiting. And Mack is the one who got VY to come to Texas, so that's being a good head coach. Recruiting is huge in college football.
No, that year OU's Jason White won the Heisman. Matt Leinart won the next year, when they beat OU. Anyways, I thought that article was very well written and I agree with most of it. Though, as long as Bob Stoops and Mack Brown stay in their respective schools, both UT and OU should be national powerhouses. Yes, Vince Young carried Mack to a championship, but Mack brought him in, along with great players to surround him. That 2002 recruiting class truly tipped Texas in the right direction: <object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/ixIZkjwMTOw&hl=en&fs=1&"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/ixIZkjwMTOw&hl=en&fs=1&" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object>
I used to criticize Mack Brown a lot, but the only really big mistake he's made looking back is choosing Chris Simms over Applewhite which was somewhat understandable. Applewhite was a Mackovic recruit, and Simms was Mack's first headlining recruit. If you take the Simms years out, UT's record against OU looks even more impressive.
Thank you for this video. Really appreciate it, and it's now saved forever in my collection. Just awesome.
I don't understand why one has to be better than the other. They are both really good coaches who have done well for their teams.
