The op says macbook is *counts the arrows* 1,2,3....exactly EIGHT times BETTER THAN pc! I think I believe thats accurate, hyperbole WINS ME OVER!
I just wonder how many of these posters have used both a Macs and PC's for an extensive time. I always get the feeling that most of these posters are posting on a 5 minute "attempt" at a store or what they have heard from a friend, article or someone else's post.
I have used both. As long as you dont deviate from what Apple thinks you should be using the Mac for, you'll be fine. Try to get a little creative or push the mac and you cant do jack. As soon as you've seen enough of your shiny new mac, put it in a glass case and get you a real computer .
Reloaded XP on my HP laptop last night... and it's already freezing up on me. I haven't installed anything other than Firefox, the drivers from the CD that came with the computer, and all of the Windows updates.
I have the new macbook, too. Prior to this laptop I was also a big apple hater but it's a great machine and well worth the price tag.
I'm not taking a side either way(I own a PC, and will for the foreseeable future), but wtf do you guys do to your computers? I have a crappy, old Toshiba(4.5 years old) with XP, and it never crashes. I'm not overly cautious or anything.
Not even remotely worth the price tag. Like the people who paid so much for the iPod when Archos has beat them with every portable player they have put out. If you have a PC and it gives you problems, 90% of the time it's your fault. L2compute
Did you even read the article?! They aren't comparing app to app, for Pete's sake they compared iLife to WMC!!! You put anything against WMC it will be slower because WMC is vastly more robust! Show me a piece of software on a Mac that can not only organize your library but share a tuner across the internet by itself! The only test worth looking at is that the web browsing is faster on a Mac. Can anyone guess why? Well, let's see, you put Safari, a light browser against IE a bloated browser and what happens? Your analogy in itself is flawed, because even under the hood these two computers have the same components. A better analogy would be like it's comparing the speeds of two Nissan Z's, one on I10 the other on a dirt road in Montana. Chances are, the one on a dirt road in Montana would be faster, but there's less around and really there's not as many places to go. Read articles before you claim them as evidence.
Probably the same reason why BMW is more expensive than Hyundai..they both run fine, it all comes down to user experience. If i have money, I would buy BWM over Hyunudai anyday.
The car analogies are ridiculously funny. Can the Mac lovers here who have to work in a Windows environment describe to me the degree of their personal hell?
It is irrelevant if they can do everything on a PC as well, because I was responding to your original comment, which was that you CAN'T do anything on a Mac. I know a very large number of scientists who would disagree with you.
And just to give you one very specific example, I use a program called splash, which is specifically designed for visualization of the output from the type of simulations I run. This program only runs on Macs and linux. If I wanted to run something similar on a PC, I would probably have to write it myself, which would be a huge headache.
fail. You sound like the "mojave" campaign, where they have to disguise their OS to get people to like it, then tell everyone how to use it, and then say "SEE? It's perfect if you know what the hell you're doing"... awesome. Kinda like the previous posts of "Windows is great, I make a living off of explaining to people the stuff they can't possibly know for themselves." Again, they both have their strengths and weaknesses, hating just seems to point out weird predisposition and prejudice. Competition is good. Alternatives are good. If they were all the same, what point would there be to the competition. Part of what makes a mac good IS the fact that it doesn't fit into the corporate PC common denominator compatibility with everyone who catered to windows mold. Part of what makes it useless to many is that exact same point. Part of what makes it unique is that a mac can run windows, but a third party PC can't easily run OSX. Windows is made to be adopted by other computer manufacturers... OSX is not. As someone pointed out, and always has to in these discussions... apple makes their hardware and OS software. MS makes the OS. Comparing the machines is different than comparing the OS's. With Apple, it's one company providing the experience. That makes things proprietary as they so choose. This is good in some ways (streamlined experience), bad in others (versatility and attention/adoption of the masses). There's just no middle ground for the haters. Can't we all just get along? This thread is useless without trollnukes.
It freezes occasionally coming out of standby and on power up at the blue user selection screen. I'm not that concerned with it, I've changed the settings so that it does not go into standby unless I specifically tell it to. I remember this happening the last time I reinstalled the OS on this computer, I ended up turning off that screen and no longer had any problems. Can't remember how to right now off the top of my head, and haven't gotten around to googling it. Edit: The really interesting thing though was when I was going to repartition. As soon as I got to the point where you choose the partition that you want to delete, the computer would shut down within 5 to 10 seconds of hitting that screen. I had to do that really fast before it shut down.
