I just got the previous model 2 weeks ago, which Best Buy put on sale for $65 to get them off the shelves for the new model. It's been working fine so far, I strictly use it for backup. Don't necessarily look for hard drives 'for Macs' or 'for PCs', it doesn't matter. It just means they saved you 10 minutes from re-formatting them yourselves. Although from what I've read, re-formatting this specific model for PCs takes a few extra steps for some reason.
My X301 cost 1380 delivered with Tax and a 3 year service contract. I doubt you will find anyone that calls it a crappy laptop. It is excellent in build quality. It weighs under 3 pounds. Mid-Upper specs include a standard Solid State Disk Drive? Mine has it. I'm not sure how hard you searched but your statement is completely false.
