It's funny how Apple fanboys bashed Windows but secretly use it for most other stuff they can't do with on a Mac.
What it boils down to is... Apple "fanboys" like professorjay love the products they own, and people like Cowboy_Bebop hate on the products they don't own.
You don't have a problem with Apples; you have a problem with the people that own them? I've built dozens of computers and worked in IT departments. What do I use at home? A Macbook Pro. Why? Because at the root, all PC's are the same. You know that, I know that. What things make the difference? User experience (OSX > Windows 7), Aesthetics (Mac > Dell/HP), Service: Apple's service is better than most other companies' standard service. We choose to pay a little more for those 3 things. That's not idiotic. Its the same reason people would rather buy an entry level Acura than a fully loaded Accord*. Mechanically/structurally they're pretty much the same car. How do those two cars differ? Those three things I mentioned. They matter. (Same thing goes for a Lexus ES and maxed out Toyota Camry) I don't know why you get so mad that Apple is an extremely successful 'value-added' company while most PC-makers are not. Do you also get pissed off at luxury auto drivers?
You can search my past posts. The search is right there at the top of the page, use it. It's no secret. Windows 7 is quite good, I've stood up for it and mentioned it many times on this board. I use it quite a bit. But I still like using my Mac more and I use it for everything else. I'm not sure why this upsets you and seems more irrational than fanboy-ism. I also prefer (but am not exclusive to, per your rules) Puma shoes. Do you like Puma shoes? Can we be friends? Or am I an even bigger a-hole now? Back on topic, the new features in OS X seem cool. Seems like it could make things easier but maybe confusing at the same time. I'd like to try it out and see it in practice.
No, it's you that's being screw over by him. Apple fanboys are the worst. I like and own some of their products but it doesn't mean I have to put up with the fanboyism who doesn't know anything about computers.
So... back to the actual event- I just read that they will now enable FaceTime to Macs. Anyone know how that will work?
Tried out FaceTime for Mac. Pretty cool... Looking forward to adding Lion on my MacBook. Ol' Cowboy Bebop in an Apple thread. What a surprise.
OS X based App Store is pretty brilliant, though I think a lot of the blogs probably called that before the keynote. Facetime on OSX, awesome. Still not big on the Air, though they are now starting to price it better and the hardware design itself is white hot. REALLY like the new iLife additions. The 'movie trailer' maker in iMovie is just sweet. Very few real details on Lion, seeing as how it's 9 months away. Do like the new Launchpad and Mission Control though.
didn't the poster above you just explain how he builds computers and works in IT? it would have been nice to see you respond, instead of having to put up with canned responses like the one above...
At that price point, the Air is still a niche product for people who have money to spend and want something cool to use. The App Store for Mac will be highly successful IMO. I could absolutely see myself downloading most of my apps from there. Not really impressed much with Lion, didn't see much that I liked other than the new Mission Control. The Launchpad seems useless. I don't see much of a reason right now to upgrade from snow leopard.
I remember how in the late 90s-early 00s Apple was used mainly by people working in the creative/culture industry. With the success of the iPod and iPhone, Apple computers exploded on the scene. The packed Apple stores in malls is proof how far the company has come with the arrival of Jonathan Ive. I disliked Apple because the majority of people that I saw use them were the affluent sorority and fraternity crowd or hipsters with loaded trust funds waiting for them back East. The Windows crowd ranged from engineers to people in the business school. In hindsight, my own biases were projected to choosing between a Mac or PC. Since 2007 w/ Intel x86 chips, they're both about the same thing now. That being said, because so many people and corporations around the globe use Windows, and the sheer price range/style/flexibility/customization of Windows machines, and now that both computers are increasingly similar, there is little reason to switch sides due to cost so I choose Windows.
They are still 9 months or so away from downloading it. And what they showed at the keynote were just a few of the many new features that are going to be in Lion. I'm sure there are going to be other cool new features as well. Just gonna have to wait n see. I'm looking forward to all the new mouse gestures that are going to be available.
