There are Mustangs that run 10's, there are Miatas that run 10's... yeesh. Get over it. :)

At what point does the car you "mod" no longer become the car it was? I mean, I could hook up a rocket to a Yugo and blow you all away... it's still a Yugo, right? :D

I don't care how much a car costs or who makes it...as long as it goes fast.

That's what make asian car attractive to me. I get so much joy in saying my "weak little v4 egine can smoke buff ass v8's without breaking a sweat!"

And this is why $100k+ cars AREN'T attractive to me. All that money for a little luxury. When it comes down to it...what's the longest you ever spend in the car anyways? When are you going to have the time to play the PS2 or xbox or watch a dvd in your car? Are you going to ask your friend "hey bud, can you drive while I play the xbox?" That's just lame. IF i wanted to watch a dvd or play some games, I'd stay at home. And worst of all, all those super expensive cars (benz, bentleys) can be smoked on a regular basis by cars that costed at least $50k less! Well, except for ferraris and lambourghinis and a few others of course. But when was the last time you saw ANYONE driving a brand new ferrari out on the street?

Yea, you'd pay $100k+ for a freaking xbox/dvd player/leather...all of which you have at home. To me, anything more than $70k is a waste. I'd be afraid to freaking drive it for fear it might get scratched and cost $1000 to fix the paint job. If a car costed that much, I'd expect it to be in a display case in some museum or something.

    ok, enough ranting :D

Yeah, but you would get a 100k car if you could afford it.

You are just bitter against expensive cars because you can't have them.

I bring up civics because you mentioned that you can mod Asian cars up to 500 hp like it was nothing--and I'm here to tell you to live in the real world for a while...

    No Kidding,

Driving down Westheimer you would think that some idiots think that a racing stripe, a hollowed out cat, and a cheap discolored wing add 100 horsepower to a piece of crap.

Please, don't ever compare a 350Z, some Civic with Nitrous or a Z28 to a M5. An M5 is a sophisticated, powerful piece of machinery with more emphasis on racing, not just 0-60, or quarter mile nonsense. What makes an M-Series BMW is the handling, cornering ability and OVERALL racing ability. If you want the fastest thing on the road, just buy a motorcycle.

Most European cars are not super-torque machines because they don't have 1/4 races in which their cars will blow up after or that the police will pull them over after.

Another alternative for those who like the M5, but are scared of the price tag is a used E55 Amg from like 2000. One of my friends has a C36 AMG and is selling it to buy a 2000 E55. Though they changed the E-series and are changing the 5-Series the M & AMG models will not be out for a while, and he is going to pay just a little over 40K for an absolute machine.

My brother and I have project cars, such as we just sold an Acura NSX that we had that produced over 400 horsepower, but it was actually slower than the Supra TT we had before it.

Dr. of Dunk, I will agree with you the SL55 AMG is the most amazing car to come out in a long time. A guy I know got one and I went for a ride in it and it was amazing. I've driven the new SL 500's (2003) which I didn't like that much. Though they look beautiful, the car drives much too reserved and does not have that kick to it. The problem is if I was going to spend 115K on a SL55 AMG, I'd rather just spend 15 or 20 more and get a 360 Modena.

I don't think I would spend the 70 grand for the 2004 M5 or the new E55 though. If you want to spend that much on a car buy the Porsche 911 S4S. That car is a machine that will blow you away and has a much meaner look to it.

I've seen 3 in person and unless you actually do so yourself I don't think you can pass judgment on it. Other than the front grill part, the rest of it looks good - no worse than a GS and DEFINITELY better looking than the new 7-series, lol. Now THAT is an ugly car.

BTW, I drove one too & it is in no freaking way a boat. While you can argue about the M45's aesthetics, which again I think are much better than the 7 series, the M45 is a performance machine. Oh, and I've heard of people getting 5.2 sec 0-60's w/ the VDC (traction/stability control) switched off.

what...only civics exist in "the real world"? Have you heard of nissan skylines? supras? etc...? supras and skylines can go past 1000hp, much less 500hp.

What is this talk of reality and "the real world"? you talk about modding cars like it's a fantasy and only done in movies? I guess you haven't picked up any import car magazines lately huh?

Modding cars is stupid. They just look cheap and stupid anyway.

Just save your money and buy an actual good car rather than a souped up piece of ****.

    Listen to your friend Maddox:

    Nomaaa,

Damn you are so right and so is Maddox on this issue. If you mod up your crappy car, its still CRAPPY. I don't give a damn how much horsepower some piece of sh*t civic has. I like to modify my cars at times, but having better exhausts and wheel's on a sports car is fine, but if you drive a piece of crap, don't spend money on it. Save your money to buy something better.

    Hmmm...

    Racing stripe = 10 horsepower
Big Goofy Wing = 15 horsepower
    Oriental Writing = 20 horsepower

Guy thinking that doing this to his car makes it different then ever other crappy car like it?? Priceless!!

    Exactly.

This guy sent Maddox hatemail about the article, and asked what he drove.

    "I have the following mods:

Stripes on my car because it makes me feel like I drive less of a piece of ****.

Gold rims because gold rims help make the car look sharp and chicks dig guys with sharp cars. Being as I'm not too much of a loser to use my car as a vessel for getting laid, it makes up for the fact that I'm a pimple-faced 16 year old who still lives at home (note for the slow: I'm not really 16).

My name and/or car brand in Old English type with big letters on the windshield or back window. This is important in case someone forgets what brand of car I'm driving, or in case they see me in my sweet ride and they think to themselves "hey who's that cool guy in that sweet ride?"

A "Type R" sticker because having the sticker is the next best thing to having the speed.

Gold trim so people don't mistake me for being anything but a high roller.

Flame stickers on the side of my car because I'm still stuck in that whole "Hot Wheel" phase. "

    Hilarious.

THANK YOU NOMAR. GLAD TO SEE THAT I AM NOT THE ONLY ONE WHO THINKS THEY ARE JUST UGLY PIECES OF CRAP . I DRIVE A 1993 HONDA CIVIC, BUT I WOULD NEVER FOR A SECOND THINK IT IS IN ANYWAY BETTER THAN A NICE EURO CAR. I DRIVE IT BECAUSE IT WAS THE ONLY CAR I CAN AFFORD BEING RIGHT OUT OF COLLEGE. IT IS JUST TO GET ME FROM POINT A TO POINT B. I AM SAVING AND PRAY ONE DAY TO GET A MERCEDES OR BMW.

Can you please find your caps-lock key and hit it once? If that doesn't stop it, just break your keyboard in two and get another one. Thanks.

I like how you guys think civics are the only cars that people mod. You think those little high school kids you see with their spoilers and loud/growling exhausts are representative of what real car modders do?

Cheap pieces of crap? Please check the prices of the high end supras, nissans and other asian cars before you talk about cheap pieces of crap.

    Vroom VROOM! :)

    DN,

I'm not talking about Supra's, NSX's or Nissan Z's. I'm talking about the little crap cars that people try to change from crap to crap with a wing, stripe etc. Then they try to race everyone at every stop light and think they're in some technological marvel when all most do is hollow out their catalytics and change their air intake.

I had a Supra Twin Turbo with over 450 HP, a completely modified NSX and even slightly modified my 300ZX back in high school

I haven't picked up any magazines but I have picked up a socket wrench...To make a jap-car run 1000 hp you need to spend THOUSANDS of dollars--A V6 or four banger will never, let me repeat, NEVER produce as much torque--i.e. power to the ground, as a fire snortin' V8. That is simply physics--do you need further explination as to how the internal combustion engine works? A Supra or Skyline could run circles around M5's or American Muscle cars on the formula track--can't argue with you there. Comparing 4-bangers and V6's too V8's is apples to oranges. We need to schedule a trip to the drag strip some time--I will give you a lesson on power distribution, gearing, and what it takes to squeeze 1000 hp out of an engine. Don't believe the hype!
