Indiana want to be under the cap even they want to resign JO, Reggie etc at same the time. I have to agree with the concept that don't tie our hands so tight if we are not to put together a championship quality team.

The problem is, Hawkins does the same things, but he does less of them.

Posey isn't going anywhere. Rudy loves his game.

Yep. POSEY FITS PERFECTLY WITH THE HOUSTON ROCKETS. He will not leave. They are trying to develop a title contending team. When does Glen Rice's contract end? Hopefully it ends this year. That will allow more money. HE WOULD NOT GO TO DALLAS. He pretty much hates them. He hates Shawn Bradley. He also hates Dirk Nowitzki. He would never become a traitor. He is staying.

Hopefully, we can even get Lamar Odom or Elton Brand!

The contract for Posey has to be reasonable but definitely not over the top (i.e. make us over the cap). We already have many bad contracts with little trade value (Rice, Mo Taylor etc). Kings and Mavs are over the cap but all their contracts are reasonable and have trade value.

I think Keon Clark was signed a MLE with the Kings last summer. Something similar or a little more would hopefully be enough to keep Posey.

True, but, looking at it from Les' standpoint, our attendance sucks. Maybe if our fan support was better and the team was able to generate more revenue, he might be willing to increase the payroll and accept the tax.

Also, something else to consider- look long term (which is what CD and rudy will be doing). Even if Posey signs for one year at the mid-level exception, and we wait to clear Rice off the books, Eddie will be getting his getting his contract extension at that time, and Yao's will only be one more year away. And we all know this teams #1 priority is signing Yao. So if we then sign Posey, someone else has to go.

I would hope that is Moochie, because we are already so thin at the PF spot- we need to keep Eddie and MoT unless we can upgrade. And I think we should keep Cato, b/c he has proved himself very effective this year, and his salary, although pretty high, is not that much higher than the NBA average for centers.

But, the issue would still stand- to sign Posey, Eddie and Yao, at least two others would have to go. But who?

We have got to keep Posey. I saw someone earlier post that J Hawkins does the same thing for less. That is completely and utterly wrong. There is a reason that Posey is starting and J Hawk has been riding the bench most of the season. It's because when he had his chance early on, he totally sucked and couldn't get the job done. Posey creates on the court like nobody's business. If the Rockets could give a stiff like Matt Maloney a sweet long term deal, they can certainly do that for Posey, who actually is a good contributor.

That would be really unfortunate. Posey is a great fit on this team.

As long as Les is willing to resign Yao Ming after 3 years for max...Hey, I don't care how much Posey is going to cost Les.

Posey has made a big difference to the team and I would like to keep him but if he doesn't want to stay can we trade him to another team for another small forward or guard?

Our problem is that we're paying Rice 9mil, Cato 6mil+ and Mo 7mil I think. Hmm.. what could we do with 22mil a year? I say we trade Rice Cato and Mo to Cav's for Drew Carey?

No seriously, as many great pics as this team has made in the late 1st round/2nd round (cassell, horry, catino or cba players, eli.. etc) we have signed some really stupid contracts (read Maloney, Rice, Cato, Taylor, Price, and the other Maloney/Price Clone (forgot his name)). Its odd that while teams like the Clips/Cavs have a hard time evaluating talent and getting freeagents, We have an almost impossible time evaluating talent that is already in the league. Almost every trade (Drexler and Barkley trades not included) that we have made in the last 10 years for players all ready in the league seem to have been busts. Well i'm probably a little off key here... but i think you get the idea.

You are right. Our franchise's drafting ability (Cassell, Horry, Yao, Mobley, Francis I count him as similar to a draft choice because we traded for him before seeing him play in the league) is way better than its trading/signing ability.

One more thing in Alexander's defense. There is no way that we spend 10mil more and are a championship contender next year. I think we can add by subtracting.. hell if we could trade a little of the baggage we have and get half in return we'd be in a great position in two years. Unfortunately with our decisions you may need to wait 2 years to see the Rockets win a playoff series. Let Eddie and Ming grow up a little more.. and lets not forget it takes years for players to build championship chemestry. Infact If we go into next year spending 15mil less than right now.. as long as it means cato and rice are gone i think we're in good shape. I know alot of people love Cato in houston for some reason.. but we pay him like $7500 per rebound and point. So lets not scream for Les to spend MORE MONEY.. but spend MORE WISELY

Posey is a bad contract waiting to happen. He seldom outscores his man (and yes, that is important), makes bad decisions w/shots (doesn't understand his own limitations).

He does play very hard and is good on defense. But there are a lot of guys like that out there that aren't asking 8m per.

Exactly those begging our owner to sign everyone to fat contracts and sign every max contract player available are stupid... businessmen! :p

Artest will make 5m, Christie 6.5m next season. No way we should give Posey more than that.

he was asking for 8mil a year to play in denver - not too unreasonable for an "elite athlete" - as compensation for always being on a loosing/sh!tty team. that is not the case here, where we have a chance to win it all in a few years. better teams, or teams with a strong future, can offer less for an equivalent "product"

christie already has a good rep in the L, hence why he gets that "little bit" extra. posey doesn't (yet).

if we offer him the 4.5 MCE over 6 years w 12.5% increases, he will earn 33.75mil over the 6 years. that's a good salary for a role player on a playoff team. when we make a serious run for the title (in 3 years IMHO), he will be earning just under 6mil p.a. in our champioships YEARS (4-6 from now) he will be earning 6.3 mil to 7.2mil. i think that is reasonable for any non allstar player.

you guys are all missing the point. The Pos is restricted FA. Nobody will offer him a contract to be matched by the Rockets. If Rox don't agree on a contract, they 'll make him the qualifying offer ( 3mil, I think) and have him for another year. After that, Rice's contract runs out...

    Who thinks Posey is bad?
Aren't we supposed to be supportive?
I don't think Kenny Thomas ever outscored his man...
Posey is unique. And we need to keep him.
Hawkins sucked? No, he didn't. He's actually pretty good and has made some fancy plays. But yeah, Posey is better.
    We need to keep him.
We are trying to build a titlecontending team. We're not trying to destruct it.
I don't have a problem with getting rid of Glen Rice and Kelvin Cato. They make too much.

    Posey will resign with us.
