Hersey Hawkins, never heard of him ;)

Yes this guy who I most thought of as a top end for Luther Head, and Hawkins flourished in Seattle where they could best play to his shooting talents and where is undersized nature for an SG didn't hurt them. Now I think Hawkins also had a midrange game and was a more instinctive scorer from the get go than Head (Hawkins was like a mid-lotto level pick if I recall), but Head might be able to get that midrange potential. I think Head is a lot more likely to grow in that respect (midrange game) than in PG respects (mentality, focus and skills to run the team as a PG)--but I would like to be wrong.

I completely agree on the Gordon/Barbosa comparisons.

I had thought of Daniels initially as well--but the more I thought about them the more I think they are really different. Daniels chief limitation is he was a very average outside shooter. Daniels has a lot better handles, finishing ability, and individual defense. I think like Daniels, Head will probably be a long time quality 3rd guard--but they bring different things. But if we can find a big 1 (like Payton was for Hawkins, maybe Tmac becomes a 1?), Head could be fine as the starting off guard whereas Daniels always would be a better 6th man type guy.

I don't think Harris is a good comparison, Harris's outside shooting is flat unreliable for an NBA guard. In natural athleticism, quickness and strength Harris may be closer to Barbosa/Gordon than Head however. Just got to hope Devin Harris continues to be a sucky outside shooter when it matters or he is going to be loads of extra trouble.

Well, tonight he kinda broke even. Had a couple, maybe a few really clutch shots, and we needed every one of them... but he also failed to hustle down that rebound in the first half, and then the out of bounds right at the end of the second.... he didn't need to touch that ball, not like he did.

I don't know. I guess what I'm saying is that he seems to have a lot of potential, but he also has some room to grow and learn. I think we won't see his best for a couple of years, and who knows if he or others that make him look good will be here then. I hope so, he is a great player and the potential is there. I think he gives matchup / defensive consideration problems for teams that scout us and play to our weaknesses, so he plays an occasionally key role... but that could improve if he does.

If we could mix Rafer and Luther, I really think we'd have something. As it is, JVG has to juggle them (which includes and even requires playing them both occasionally) to get the most from them.

Perhaps next year Luther will show us how far he can take his game. I hope so.
