I think a better comparison for Head is Derek Fisher than Gordon or Barbossa. He doesn't need great handles, as T-Mac runs the half-court offense anyway, but he needs to not suck as a PG, as well as learn to play great defense.
Nah...Barbosa has one thing Luther will never have -- otherworldly speed. I think that guy has some afterburners hidden inside his shorts -- he has an incredible ability to just turn on the jets and blow by you before you can blink. Other than that, yeah. Luther can already shoot better than Barbosa, he just can't handle as well.
Poor man's Michael Redd. Both have a knack for stealing the ball. Both can be streaky from behind the 3pt line. Both have defensive limitations. Both have square heads.
I believe that in the NBA, most players show the greatest improvement between their second and third year. That is basically saying that if you haven't lived up to your potential by the third year, chances are unlikely for you to improve any further. Of course, there are exceptions to every rule. Also, the learning curve for bigs is more like 3-5 years. That being said. I expect Luther to improve on his penitration over the summer. I don't think his ball handling is as big a problem as his decision making. Fortunatley, both areas can be learned and improved. Unfortunately, ball handling is easier to learn then dicision making.
Luther is NOT streaky. He's just a good shooter, period. McGrady -- streaky. Luther -- NOT streaky. Capisce?
True, there is no debate concerning Barbosa's speed. One thing about Leandro is that he's made significant progress in terms of ball handling. He was weak in ball control his first couple years. He would put his head down and dribble down the court, only to dribble off of his foot, or make an errant pass. Now he just puts his head down and dribbles straight to the basket at a 100 MPH with great control north to south. Hopefully Luther can mimic this progress, though obviously lacking in the caliber of speed which Leandro possesses.
There are nights when he goes 2 of 7, 1 of 5, and 2 of 6 from behind the arc and there are nights when he can't miss. Never said he wasn't a good shooter (hell, I'm comparing him to Michael Redd), just that he's streaky.
That's a product of sample size, not streakiness. The difference between a good 3 point shooting night and a bad one is usually one extra make or miss. For example, 3/6 is 50%(good), while 2/6 is 33%(bad).
I agree , and I guess his potential is Derek Fisher. HEAD CANNOT DRIBBLE, AND HE IS A HORRIBLE SHOOTER "INSIDE THE CIRCLE".
Unless he works on his handle, he is as good as he will ever be. His shot couldn't possibly get much better. He is held back by his own inability to dribble. Any improvement of his offensive game should begin right there. Then you can worry about passing, midrange jumpshots and things like that. If he can improve his handle, I would say his ceiling is something like a better version of Mike James minus the huge ego and attitude. On defense, he just can't move quickly enough laterally to stay with PGs and he is too small to deal with SGs. I don't have much hope for him improving much in that facet of his game.
^^^I said Mike James by the way thinking of Toronto version Mike James who was a great 3 point shooter, could create his own shot fairly well off the dribble but lacked great passing and court vision. I think it is much more realistic that Head could improve his dribbling than his passing. Passing and court vision is usually something that you either are gifted with or not.
Wow, luther head a poor man's ben gordan? a poor man's barbosa? u guys are overrating luther so much. the only thing luther gives us is 3 point shooting, nothing more. he is a terrible ball handler and a terrible passer, not to mention he's inept when he's inside the arc. he has NO midrange game whatsoever, and he never tries to penetrate and finish. luther head is more like a poor man's brent barry but even that's a stretch. he isnt untouchable like gordan and barbosa he will DEFINITELY be on the trading block.
You guys underated and overrate Heads game. How is his non-three point shooting horrible. He shoots 43% inside the circle. Its ot great but not oeeible by any stretch of the imagination. And improving dribble should not be that horrible. I seen ppl improved their handles dradtically just from goin to gym or physical education everyday and practiving. Trust me improving your dribbling isn't that hard. ANd the only way Head is on the trading block is if we're definitely getting a better player ie somebody whose drastically a better player than Head. JVG wouldn't trade Head jsut for anybody or package him for anybody. He's basically our only reall scorer other than Mac n Ming who can drop 20 points without volume shooting like Alston.
