If the 3 point contest was chosen on skill shooting the 3 pointer for this year (and not based on popularity/whatever other criteria the NBA uses) the contestants should have been IMHO:

Luther Head: ranks 7th in percetange at .445 and 5th in made 3's at 113
    Raja Bell: 10th with .430, 3rd with 125
    Mike Miller: 10th with .430, 1st with 150
    Jason Kapono: 1st with .559, 16th with 85
    Brent Barry: 3rd with .465, 19th with 80
    Steve Nash: 2nd with .490, 4th with 117

good assessment. i would've gone with the same bunch.

there should be a criteria set for the 6 spots in the shootout. let's say, since we're looking at ranks in 3P% and 3PM, the top 6 highest combined rankings in those catagories will qualify for the shootout.

the defending champ doesn't get an automatic spot. why not give the heat an automatic playoff spot for winning the championship last year? see what i mean.

    1. Luther get into the 2nd yr all star team, that means much more for him.

    2. As many people mentioned, 3pt contest is more about entertaining.

Speaking of... where is Steve Nash in the 3 point shooting contest? He has to be the best fit for the event, has the reputation factor, and he actually has the stats to back it up.

For some reason nash has not done that well in the years he did it. Plus he's already doing the skills competition one.

Nash has already complained publicly about being "forced" to participate in All Star side events. Although he complained in a much more tactful way than Tyrus Thomas.

If you are in the NBA, especially if you are a star like Nash. Just dont complain about anything... ever. How much money is he pulling down? And he has the balls to complain about something? If its too tough, just quit! You have enough money to hold you over for the rest of your life I bet. I hate when rich people complain about stuff like this.

Not the same scenario i think the defending champ should get an automatic spot to try to defend his title, to give him the chance. the heat have the chance to defend their title, the first step of which is earning a playoff spot.

no one is saying to let dirk automatically go to the second round of the shootout, he has to start off at the first round like everyone else

by your logic it would be as if the heat would not have been able to play at all this season.

take the top 5 and the defending champ, if the defending champ is in the top 5 then take the top 6

it's hard to like guys that feel "forced" to do a 3pt contest that's over in a half hour.

like he's cheated out of relaxing for that time...

if you don't want to participate then just say so. don't complain that the nba expects you to participate when without the nba and it's fans you would barely have a college education.

steve nash is one of the good guys of the nba, but this news combined with the way tyrus thomas was acting in the papers left a bad taste in my mouth this week.

i was a little disappointed to find out luther was not asked to be in it, but its whatever really.....i mean, what more would it have mattered to me if he were it in....? ....if he were in it and won it.....? yeah it would be cool that evening, but i mean a week later i probably would never think about it again.....i love luther as a player and as a rocket......but i guess what i am saying is that i was upset at first, but its really not that big of a deal.

did anybody read some of the responses on the bottom of the page?

"Yao Ming is NOT an All Star, and Shaq never plays"

"every 1 billion chinamen thinks Yao, Battier and McGrady are Gods."
