I hope Gilbert is in there. Gilbert (just because he's so durn competitive) Ray Ray Kapono (he deserves it) Brent Barry Mike Miller Nash
No, I agree with the previous poster that said his style of jumping into the shot takes too much out of him to really compete. That contest is more of a speed and endurance contest as they have to pick the ball off a rack and fire it and it is a timed event. You have to pick up and have your feet in position to raise and fire. There is just no way that Luther would be competitive in that event.
On one level I agree with you. But on another level I want to see Luther compete just out of morbid curiousity. I want to see exactly how detrimental his shooting style would be. I guess that's kinda wrong.
what the hell? does that mean kapono thinks he is less popular than tim legler used to be when he was in the contest? i don't think the 3 point contest is much of a popularity contest...
To hell with that bourgeois 3-point shoot out, here's to Luther dropping 26 in the Rookie/Sophomore game.
those saturday night contests were once a chance for the smaller name player to make a name for himself. now only superstars get to compete. if he and kapono didn't get selected, they do not take the best 3pt shooters. they take the dirks, and nash's and gilbert arenas'. they want all-stars to compete. i hope luther takes this personally and does after the rookie game MVP!
I would LOVE to see Yao in a 3 pt contest Obviously, it will never happen but I think Yao could do some damage.
Miami Herald Sources: Kapono in three-point contest BOSTON - As of a week ago, Jason Kapono was convinced he would be shut out of the All-Star weekend three-point shooting contest even though he was easily leading the league in three-point shooting percentage. On Wednesday, according to sources familiar with the situation, Kapono found out he was wrong. Kapono will compete in the contest Feb. 17, as part of All-Star Saturday. The field will officially be announced today, but it is believed defending champion Dirk Nowitzki, Steve Nash, Gilbert Arenas and Damon Jones will be among the competitors. Kapono couldn't say whether he had been chosen to compete, but he said he would practice the shooting routine before heading to Las Vegas. ''If I'm fortunate enough to make the three-point shooting contest, I would definitely put in the time because if I'm going to go out there, then I'm going to want to do well and bring home the title,'' Kapono said. Kapono is the third Heat player to compete in the shootout, joining Jon Sundvold and Glen Rice, who won it in 1995. -------------------------------------------------------------------- Damon Jones does not deserve to be there over Luther Head IMHO. Head is 7th in 3 PT % at .445, and 5th with 3's made at 113. Damon Jones is 27th in 3 PT % at .397 and 16th with 3's made with 85. Also Arenas is not even in the top 50 for 3 point percentage, but is 2nd obverall in made 3's. Stev Nash is going to be a busy man. All Star game, skills competion, and 3 point shootout. Hopefully his shoulder is overly aggravated for the 2nd round playoff match-up against the Rockets.
That's a joke that Luther wasn't selected. Ranked 6th in the league in 3-point accuracy, near the top in # of 3-pointers made, and behind only Ray Allen in 3-pointers made in the 4th quarter. What else can the guy do?
it's all about popularity. they won't take the best shooters, they take the best players. IMO that's why the shooting contest has sucked in recent years. there will never be guys like dale ellis, sam perkins, or vashon lenard in the contest again. on a side note, i'm glad that kopono made it. he really deserved it.
This is actually the type of move that would make these events super popular again. Imagine this 3 point shooting contest: Yao, Shaq, Dwight Howard, Ben Wallace, Camby, Jermaine O'Neal. Or have those guys do the skills competition. The best, of course, would be some kind of one on one tournament. Or if that's too "dangerous" how about a tournament of H-O-R-S-E
