How, when and why did this megadeal come to fruition? Harrison cited his two-decade relationship with Lakers general manager Rob Pelinka, starting when Harrison was a Nike executive and Pelinka was a player agent. Harrison told The News that he and Pelinka began having “basketball” conversations more than a month ago. “Then all of a sudden we’re like, ‘Would you ever do this?’ ‘Nah, you’re joking, right?’ ‘Hmm. Interesting. Maybe I would.’ Added Harrison: “And then it just built over time over the last three weeks.” A person familiar with the Mavericks’ thinking told The News that Harrison got full support from team governor Patrick Dumont in the weeks leading to the trade and when it was time to pull the trigger late Saturday night.
Maybe the worst deal I’ve ever seen in my life. Don’t think ppl realize he’s 25. I don’t give a dam if he’s as big as 2 sandwich and does coke all day. U can’t trade him for that.
Hate to say i feel bad for Dallas, but i just do. That said, yall keep hating on AD pushing that media narrative b/c he played with LeBron. AD is an all time great and one of the greatest PF's ever. Sure, he's injury prone, but the talent is insane and short term-he can help Dallas contend and win a title, but like a 2 season window and they still need more moves and hope AD and Kyrie stay 100% healthy. It just feels kind of dirty and nasty due to the strange age mismatch. It's like trading Dominique at 32 for a 25 year old David Robinson. Actually no, Luka is one of the top faces of the league now and for the future. It's like the Lakers trading Shaq at 25 for a 32 year old Shawn Kemp citing Shaqs weight issues and intent to contend and win-now. Maybe even worse bc Dallas was just in the Finals.
They really traded a 25 year old guy who nearly averaged a triple double the last few years…….for someone who was not even the best player on his team.
Sssoooooooo What's the grade on the Utah portion of this What the hell did they get Mavs thought was the NBA version of Dak Rocket River
this would’ve been so nerve racking for me if I was Pelinka…like I’m sitting here about to do the heist of the century and fleece this fool out of Luka Doncic I would’ve been so worried that Nico Harrison might snap out of his manic episode and realize “wait, I’m really trying to trade Luka for AD and a pick” not to mention if anything about Luka being available had leaked prior to the deal being done and other teams found out
Dumb. And for the Mavs GM to say it makes the Mavs a contender even dumber. I’m speechless why the Mavs would dump a MVP candidate in his prime for AD who has shown in his career he can’t be # 1 and is injury prone. Congrats to LA as the Mavs just handed them a championship.
I am certain there are teams out there who would have said name your price we will give you anything we have.
I don’t know what’s more shocking, this trade or so many Rockets fans here being upset that a generational talent is no longer in Dallas.
This feels like a hostile takeover by the new ownership. Typical playbook: 1. Alienate fan base 2. Attendance and enthusiasm declines in Dallas 3. Adelsons try to squeeze a new arena out of Dallas 4. Dallas is still pissed, tells Adelson to **** off 5. Adelsons tell Silver “This situation is crazy. It can’t be fixed.” 6. Silver approve Adelsons to move team to Vegas, rename them the “Las Vegas Sands”
Can the NBA step in? This is a BS trade like you make on a video game. The Lakers are now set to be contenders post LeBron.
