Yeah, I'm worried about that too. I'm thrilled with the trade. This fills the hole I wanted filled by Amir Johnson. But, I had hopes we'd get a solid player for the future, which sounds like he is, and figured we needed to trade for a veteran to start at PF. I hope we still have those plans. The guy he's often being compared to is Kenny Thomas. Now, I liked Kenny, but he certainly was no Duncan, Garnett, Brand, or Boozer stopper. ... I'm glad about this trade, but I think we need to temper our enthusiasm until we see him play, and allow him to adjust. He might be as NBA ready as anyone, but there are always adjustments, and I fear our hyping of him could create expectations on his part, like with VSpan, or disappointment as fans, when he experiences the normal learning curve of all Euros. This isn't on the level of getting Dream, Ralph, Clyde, Barkley, Francis, Yao or McGrady, but it is nice to pick up a solid piece for the long term at PF, since we keep doing short term solutions after the McGrady trade. Congratulations Morey ... you have to admit, the Rockets are consistently lucky, with things falling into their laps. Morey was at the right place at the right time, especially with Lindsey just goint to SAS.
think we might be done with PFs? Scola, Hayes, Landry, and Harris, thats 4 PFs. one more and we'll have it logjammed like the guards.
now maybe get an insurance C just in case yao goes down and we need someone to back up deke. or maybe deke wont be able to play a lot next yr and needs rest in back to back games??? idk, or its always good to have more shooters or athleticism. on the back or front line
For those who have seen him play frequently, I have a few questions about Scola's game: 1. Is he a good passer? 2. Can he hit the midrange shot? How far is his range? Does he extend out to college 3's range? 3. Is he a flopper? I have a feeling he'll be a crafty type player like a Divac. But it appears he has a lot more intensity and more athleticism based on the highlights. The highlights I've seen are only in the post or inside finishes via the break or putbacks.
Who's this mystical Boozer/KG/Duncan stopper that everyone wants? The only thing stopping those guys are injuries.
i think most people on this fan, was just tired of seeing our players just letting their players score so easily. if your going to let your opponent score, make them earn it. rafer was basically giving deron free points, and yao who was stuck with boozer, gave boozer several highlight dunks.
He tried growing his hair out once, but his hair was already beginning to thin so he saved himself the embarrassment and cut it off before he became a Kaman.
I am still on cloud nine after this. Now to have the local Argentine community have a meet and greet with him. lets do this at my place.
Wow That sure was fast! I thought he won't be here for another month or two. So will there be some more summer league games for Rockets besides Vegas? It sure would be nice if he can play with the summer league team a bit...
So at this point 22 games into the winning streak it seems the Scola trade was an absolute success. I'm pretty sure he has wildly outperformed anyones expectations especially since he was inserted into the starting lineup. He should finish top 3 voting for ROY
