Cool. I've seen a knee jerk thread become moronic, but I've never seen a moronic thread become knee jerk. I guess if you hang out here long enough, you'll see everything.
Actually it does. Dalembert and Parsons are taking rebounds away, and we are playing fewer possessions per game.
When you watch the games he is just swatting at the ball and fumbling rebounds away. Usually is more sure handed. Yao, Chuck, TMac, Deke, Bud, Ariza and Shane were good rebounders too but he still managed 8-9 with them.
You're doing it wrong. The red box is supposed to go around the column with the heading that says "G."
Scola shouldn't be over the hill at his age. To me that leaves two possible causes of his "decline": 1. The backbreaking schedule. Scola is a hustle player. Perhaps he has reached the physical limit of how hard one can play. 2. Coaching. Maybe he is still trying to grasp the new system, both offensively and defensively, especially offense. On the flip side, maybe the coaching staff is still trying to figure out how to best use Scola's game.
Dalembert is the best rebounder we have had in forever (Averages about 12 per 36). Parsons is the best rebounding SF we have ever had. Not to mention Lowry is averaging nearly 7 per game from the PG position. The increase in turnovers are a bigger concern to me. We are actually averaging more rebounds as a team than we did a year ago, and outrebounding our opponents. Our turnovers have increased from last year despite few possessions and our assist to turnover ratio has decreased.
Scola made it on a list of top 10 most disappointing players. Hope Scola is just slumping and can turn it around soon. It sucks if he’s done for good because of his knee injury or father time swooping in at the blink of an eye.
Folks here are just silly and fickle. When Martin struggled to begin the season they screamed we should dump him. Last night he dropped 32. Scola, who has been our heart and soul for 3 seasons, has a few tough outings and now we should dump him. I don't know why anyone would want to play for you guys.
Lets not forget Kyle Lowry stealing rebounds, too. Anywhow, the rumors of Scola's demise is probably greatly exaggerated. First, on the rebound front, the team got 49% of rebounds with Scola on the floor this seaosn. Last season, the team got 49.5% of rebounds with Scola on the floor. Not much of a difference. This suggest that Scola is not really losing more rebounds to oppositions as much as he's losing some to teammates. This year's team is rebouding a lot better without Scola on the floor (55%). However, the team is playing a lot worse in terms of point differential without Scola (his on/off +/- is +21... basically in-line with the "our bench has been horrible" trend). Second, Scola's FG% has so far decreased from 50% to 46%-- does it mean he has become a stiff and is too slow to score any more? Well, if you look deeper into the data, his FG% at the rim, from 3-9 ft and from 10-15 feet are basically the same as they were last season-- as are his # of shot attempts at each of these ranges, the big difference is that his FG% from 16-23 ft dropped from 48% last year to 37% this year. Since those are mostly spot-up Js, this isn't so much of a matter of a loss of athleticism but is rather a matter of some combo of (A) not getting as open on his shots, (B) dead legs hurting jump shooting accuracy, and (C) just being unlucky or out of rhythm-- jump shooting slumps happen (ask Budinger and Battier). http://www.hoopdata.com/player.aspx?name=Luis Scola Scola does look less comfortable and more tired than he was last season, but new coach, new offense, limited training camp and compressed schedule does that to people.
I understand what you're saying statistically, but it's when you watch his fumbling the ball and not getting a grip and just general carelessness that it starts to look like something's wrong.
I think the we should start patrick patterson at pf...scolla would give the second unit a much needed scoring option and scola would thrive better against back up big men...patterson would be good in the starting lineup because unlike scola he dosent hesitate on his jumpshots and is automatic with them.patterson also plays better defense.
Thanks for this, you’ve made me feel a lot better. Scola shot an excellent 50.4% on spot-up chances last season. If that’s the main problem, then it’s not something attributed to physical decline.
Phew. for some reason when I read the title.. I thought Scola was busted for stealing sunglasses. Spoiler
I don't think folks are giving any where near enough consideration to the cumulative effects of the long layoff ultra-abbreviated camp and preseason crammed schedule So far we've had 15 games and 10 off days in between. 15 games in last year? We had 16 off days in between. We're fans on the couch, so one of the last things we appreciate is the toll a grinding schedule takes. This season is pressing players harder, with significantly less rest, without the normal benefit of a 6 week camp/preseason to round into playing shape. Guys are going to be run down, burned out, and have a much tougher time shaking off minor nagging injuries. The product is going to be messy, ugly nights and down years for some older horses. I remain of the opinion that the best tactic McHale should have employed this season was going as deep into the bench as he could. Not in each game, but from game to game. You've got PFs pouring out of your rear end - so cut Luis down to 10-15 mins on the second night of a back to back and throw Patterson, Parsons, and Morris out there. Give Thabeet limited auditions on the occasional second night of a back to back. Make Lee your 30 min SG on certan nights to give Martin a break. This year, the schedule looks more MLB than NBA, so borrow a page from their book and rest your guys once in a while so they don't play themselves into the ground. I'd have a lesser guy play with pop once a week if my starter's limping along at 60%.
The last few games he has...patterson is starting to come around...now...hestruggled early on...but seems to be getting his rythum.I think he's better for the starting lineup right now.
