Let me interpret. The money teams of MLB didn't mind cheating as long as THEY did it. But beating the MONEY teams is "bad" for baseball. So prosecute the "bad" team. Follow the money is the answer to every question. Especially when it doesn't make sense.
I was looking at the minor league prospects for 2015, and it seemed even the guys in the low teens ended up making it to MLB. I think the only one that didn’t was Mark Appel, but the other top 15 did. And every year of the Luhnow reign was like that, some years more than others, but consistently churning out MLB players. Too bad Crane went Jerry Jones and wanted the credit for himself. Crane did not appreciate what Luhnow brought to the table, thinking it’s easily replaceable. Well the next years will be telling because, Luhnow prospects are dwindling. It’s gonna be up to Click to showcase his own guys.
Click has only overseen 2 drafts, both of which he didn’t have 1st or 2nd round picks. This July is his first real draft and we won’t know any real results of it for 3-4 years minimum. The only results we’ve seen from Click is the development of Luhnow’s prospects (which he’s gotten phenomenal results from) and signing Pedro Leon which is looking pretty good so far.
True, I look at the Leon signing as the equivalent of a 1st rd pick. He needs to hit on picks outside rds 1-2 . I believe that was the posters point.
Luhnow did a great job. But the idea that all his draft picks hit or that he consistently produced more with less is false. In the top 15 rounds of 2015 draft mentioned by Vince, rounds 3, 4, 6, 7, 9, 10, 13, 14, and 15 busted (that’s 9/14, or 64%). Cameron hasn’t done squat. Same for Eshelman. Really the only 2 players from that draft that exceeded expectations were Straw and Sandoval.
