I'd say he'd be a late 1st rounder. Around 24-27th. One of our picks fall right around there somewhere.

Nah ... the PHX pick will range between 17th -19th pick, giving us a chance to secure this guy. Plus we have our own that can range from 11-12th.

Yeah, I'd be awesome if our draft day selections turned out to be like this:

11th-12th pick : Donatas Motiejunas 7'0 PF, 20yrs old, very skilled, NBA comparison: Pau Gasol (best case scenario)

17th -19th pick : Lucas Noguira 7'1 C, 19yrs old, athletic but raw, NBA comparison: Tyson Chandler (best case scenario)

But of course this would involve us having to move one of our bigs, but I'd definitely be open to it...

Let's draft a guy in the first round that plays for a YOUTH TEAM in Spain. You have got to be kidding me.

If he was from America he would be one of the 5-10 greatest prospects of all time.

Your xenophobia of South American's is starting to become nauseating.

    Who Wants To Sex Mutombo?

Actually, as someone who has close G-town friends that went to school with Deke, it's "Who wants to sex Dikembe".

This kid has been getting a bad rep because of his so-so performance over the past week, but one thing we can all say for sure, he is really 18 yrs old and a legitimate 7'0 footer. He can already shoot from midrange. Just needs some work. He has already committed to putting on more weight, which shows that he can be motivated. Also, it is a possibility that he will want to come over right away. Already there was a post somewhere on Clutchfans that a team in the high 20's was looking to get him. I still say roll the dice on this kid at 14. This kid will be the future of the franchise. He will become a force in due time once he learns the ins and outs of the NBA game. He has unlimited potential. I guarantee Hakeem will run to train this kid. Have him workout with Chuck over the summer.

He won't even play substantial minutes in the NBA for at least 3 years.

He might fall like Hassan Whiteside but I still would pick him up with one of our picks not the 14th though.

Portland wants to draft him with the 21st pick, greedy bastards. We need to move a couple of pick ahead of them using a package of our 23rd and 38th pick.

I too don't think we should get him at 14, but if we don't get him then, we won't get him at all. So me team is going to get him before that 23rd pick. Unlike Hassan Whiteside, he has coordination, he is very springy and he has displayed somewhat of a jumpshot. He is not stiff like Thabeet either. There was a pic of him standing next to Dwight Howard. You can tell by that pic that he will fill out well with work. As i mentioned in my last post, he has already gained 20+ lbs. over the past few months or so. Maybe he could add a good 5 or more lbs. of muscle come draft day? Yeah, he is going to get pushed around a lot early, but he will learn best on the fly. Have him play in the Dleague early.

Which is a bad sign. Portland has a really awful scouting on foreign players. Patrick Mills is an OK third string point guard but he played in NCAA so that does not really count, even though he is Australian.

    But........

Rudy Fernandez: Portland went out of their way to get him and even claimed he was "the best player in Europe". Yeah......I'm not sure if he was even a top 50 player in Europe and he sure the hell should have never been a first round draft pick.

He never could defend in Europe and he never could dribble or create his own shot. They even compared him to Manu. Clearly extremely bad scouts.

Peterri Kopponen: I believe they made him a first round pick also. This guy is years later still not even able to make a Euroleague roster. He just had his first decent season in his career and it was in a really weak level in Europe which is the Italian League.

He is just now talking that he might possibly get signed to a Euroleague team.

    Ricky Sanchez: Yeah........OK.

They actually had some very good ones like Omer Asik and Federico Kammerichs. They traded Asik and never even brought Kammerichs in, even though he is very useful player.

Same thing with Ha Seung Jin - what an awful pick. Then again they drafted Nedad Senanovic, a very good big man and never signed him.

Joel Freeland was a good draft pick (he has some talent) but as a first round pick? No. He has that talent level but he was a very long term project so that was a totally illogical pick.

The ONLY good foreign pick I can think of that they made in recent years was Victor Claver. Now that was a damn good draft pick, but the funny thing is that the word was that they only drafted him to try to make Fernandez feel better if he came to them and he had a "friend to talk to".

So even though Claver was a very good pick, they essentially drafted him for a BS reason. Portland obviously has some really poor scouts on the international scene.

If they are interested in Noqueira it is probably another Joel Freeland type of thing where they are planning on the guy for 5-6 years down the road. I mean guys like Freeland and Kopponen were extremely long-term draft picks that they took in the first round. What a shock that they are interested.

I agree, Nogueira will be a project. I have watched him play a little during the Hoop Summit and he looks good, just lanky. Do you think he will become as good as someone like NENE? I do, only because he has good speed for a 7 footer. Once he gets a good jumpshot going, he will possibly develop into a KG type player.

I think if the Rockets want him he would be a good second round pick, but not with the first pick. Too long term of a project for the needs the Rockets have.

is this guy related to the nogueira brothers from the ufc? if so, then not only will the rockets have a center of the future, they will also get a bodyguard also free of charge.
