I dont understand the crowd that dislikes the deal. We gave up an aging PG who has been a weak link for a while and we got a young, athletic, high IQ PG who plays defense and rebounds. I understand the attachment there because Rafers been with the rockets for a while, but from a basketball standpoint, this was a very underrated move. And it will improve the team now and in the future.
takes about 7 years to reach 61 posts...thats about 10 per year...whoa nice back to topic: I am annoyed with AB trying to do too much by himself...he needs to stop chucking up 20 shots per game and start assisting
especially some of those lob passes to Yao were pretty impressive. I'm very optimistic about his future with the rockets. Yeah ,you are right ,his pass to Yao makes me think of Yao 's best friend in China, the Pg of Shanghai team ,liuwei. Liu is considered as the best passer with yao in China.
It is amazing that Lowry can pass like that, becuase he joined this team just few days ago. comparing with Rafer and AB, I never see they pass the ball like that
It's amazing so many guys on this board still holds a grudge against the Rafer trade. It looked good at that time. Anyway, do you think Rafer is the difference maker between a title contender and a playoff team? Zilch. Stan Van Gundy will rue his days when he said that Rafer won't shoot like often (referring to 1-9 shooting in Rafer's first game As a Magic). No disrespect to Rafer, he's probably the best midfielder if the basketball court was stretched to a soccer field. But this is basketball, his ball-handling skills can only be that useful. Now Brooks' become the starter, no one will be left open any more. Morey's thinking is probably like this: You don't lose much trading away Rafer. Brooks is 6-1 as a starter. You get Lowry who has a good chance to be a good point guard.
By the way, who's best comparison of Lowry? I think he's very much like former Rocket Steve Francis, especially physically. But they have different mindset as far as playing basketball. Lowry is pass-first and a lesser shooter while Steve is shoot-first and a better shooter. They're both good penetrators, good rebounders for their size, good defenders(Lowry is a more willing defender).
I'm not sure if this has been posted but here is an interesting quote from Yao on Lowry. ---------------------- After a couple of games where it seemed he hadn't been introduced to Yao Ming, Kyle Lowry found the big guy a few times against the Cavaliers. Yao is impressed by his new teammate. Not just as a player, but the way Lowry approached the new situation. Yao says Lowry made it a point to ask him how and where he likes to get the ball, and what he prefers to do in pick-and-roll or pick-and-pop situations. "It's gonna work," Yao said. "I think Kyle is a very smart player. He's a quick learner. When he came in, he asked questions, very smart questions. If you have that type of player, who asks those types of questions, you know there will not be questions on the court." http://blogs.chron.com/jeromesolomon/2009/02/post_85.html
I can ask for something more A consistent jumpshot so it can open up his drive game. If he can do that with his defense he can become an elite point guard
he's gotta few more months to get accustomed to the system, let's see how he plays when he's comfortable with his teammates and the system.
I think he should start over Brooks cause to me he seems like a more natural point, he looks for others before he shoots. He's better than Brooks at attacking the basket and he is strong on D. With him in the starting line-up it would give us another lock-down guy and should improve the defense even more. I like Brooks but I thing he's better suited coming off the bench as a spark with Von Wafer. The only downfall on Lowry is he isn't a good 3pt shooter but other than that, I see him as a more complete PG right now than Brooks.
Daryl Morey is an absolute genius. This kid is like Shane Battier at the point guard position, but with offense. Extremely high IQ, gritty, doesn't make mistakes, lockdown defender, and flat out affects the game. I don't think he's an elite starter or any of the hyperbole going on, but at a little over $1million and straight up for Rafer Alston, Kyle Lowry is one hell of a steal.
