It really does not matter who starts as long as the PG is no longer Rafer. At present, I do prefer AB who can shoot. We have Yao so the requirement for PG is different from other team's. I always hate to see other teams leave Rafer open in order to double team Yao. Now, when their PG comes to help double team, AB or Lowry will make them to pay. Since AB shoots better 3s, I prefer AB sarts with Yao. On the other hand, Yao does not need too many balls to be efficent. Since Yao is an atypical NBA center, Rox does not need a typical NBA PG like Rafer. and Since Yao is an atypical NBA center, a Rox PG should know how to shoot and penetrate.
The funny thing about Lowry is that we're all so excited about the guy, and yet we still haven't seen him play with the one bench player he was born to play with: Carl Landry! Those two are going to put on a pick-and-roll clinic on some poor team's bench in the very near future.
^ what i was going to say I really like our PG's they are doing there jobs... and are a upgrade from the last few years...
I did too...surprised how I havent seen one yet. but I did see myself starting that thread... still, you can't make 8-20 and 1-7 sound good chucking up all those shots... he'll get burned by D-Rose...thats why Kyle is here shall I start a thread for ab-vs-kl discussion? hehe
Just like I said earlier in this thread, Lowry might win the starting job next year but our playoffs hopes would be over this year if he started. It is too late in the season for him to learn the plays but next year is a whole other story. Also he has more chemistry with Yao which is a major plus.
but do you think ab will actually do good against Deron Williams and Chauncey Billups? do you? do you actually? C'mon, I know what your REAL answer to this. Playoffs is all about defense, and KL is all about that. and KL played better than AB last night, and its what, his 3rd game?
http://www.wagesofwins.com/AllPlayerMid0809.html He is ranked 78th in the Wins Produced statistic from Wages of Wins for the first 41 games of the season. He is right between Ilgauskas and Mo Williams. Rafer Alston is ranked 134th between Amir Johnson and Keith Bogans.
As long as Lowry learns to shoot the ball with better consistancy, and actually learns to shoot the three ball, I think his future is bright. I would like to see Lowry start over Brooks, simply because Lowry is more of a pass-first PG and has really good defense.
Having read that Morey has been looking to get Lowery for three years makes me think we got another Battier. May be beyond my ability to understand why, but he just makes the team better. Doesn't matter if he has an inside or outside shot, he just makes the team better. I predict a lot of minutes for him.
Didn't know much about him before, but he's really impressed me, as well. His game and attitude seem well-suited for this team. I'm fine with Brooks being in the starting lineup with Lowry getting plenty of minutes. Both can drive, but we need Brooks's outside shooting with the starters more than Lowry's defense. Lowry's perimeter shooting is less of a problem with the backup unit, where we have Wafer/Barry and Landry. In fact, I think he should thrive when dishing and driving to these players. Also, Lowry will probably see more minutes if on the off chance Brooks struggles defending some top PGs in the playoffs. A very good option to have.
Dude, you just got me twice as excited about seeing Kyle. You are exactly right. Landry and Lowry will fit together PERFECTLY. Landry can use his athleticism to catch those lobs and finish hard, or he can drift out and hit the jumper (probably with more consistency than Scola). Considering that, it might be better to keep Lowry coming off the bench with the second unit.
I could see him either starting or eventually getting more minutes than Brooks at some point. Maybe not this season, but certainly by next.
Basically Morey is sick of Rafer as the point guard and finally wake up. I been saying this all years, why did the Rockets keep Rafer as the PG for all these years?? He sucks at shooting the ball and is very inconsistent...and the terrible part is that he only shoot 3s and can't drive, can't shoot off the driver...he is simply not a GOOD player. But the Rockets STILL insist on using HIM because of what?? Oh because of his ballhandling skills and defense...who the f* care?? I mean the majority of the ball is going to Tmac and Yao, this team is built around them, we don't need a PG that handling the ball. So basically Rafer is useless in this lineups. That is why i say Aaron Brooks is a better fit than Rafer and yet it take them REMOVING Rafer in order to set Brooks FREE...which is stupid to me. Brooks and Tmac imo is what clot up the blood of this team from flooding normally. Next up is Tmac..they need to trade this fool!! So injure-prone and useless...shooting very inconsistent as welll...and taking most possessions away from Yao.
I think Morey always wanted to upgrade over him, but struggled to find a willing trade partner . When the Magic lost Nelson it really provided Morey an opportunity to move Alston and get a pretty decent player in return. Its not playstation, the trade has to work for all parties involved. You hear so many trade rumors before the deadline, but very few of them actually get finalized. There's a reason for that. There's risk involved in every trade you make, and both teams have to feel like the reward of making the deal is worth the risk. Fortunately we have a GM who trusts himself and his information, and an owner who gives the GM the resources to improve the team.
i'd have to agree here, plus AB might work better as that spark off the bench. he'll still get his shots, he might be better coming off the bench.
Exactly what i'm thinking. And the best part of the addition of Lowry is that, we got 2 PGs that can now push the tempo.
I have a feeling that Lowry is going to mold into a great point guard for Houston. In fact, I believe many fans will be laughing at themselves for disliking the trade so much several years from now.
