He reminds me of a stronger Jameer Nelson without the jumper. Like people have been saying if he can improve his jumper and 3 pointer in the offseason he has a chance to be a top 10 pg in the future. Jameer Nelson always had a nice shot but he didn't make huge strides till this year and he's 27. Lowry will only be 23 next month and I hope he continues to work hard.

On a sidenote I've been extremely pleased how the Rockets have groomed their young talent opposed to years past where we had a bunch of slow, old, has been role players from the JVG era or NBDL pickups from the Rudy T era.

    Brooks
    Landry
    Scola (young NBA wise)
Wafer ( young journey man who found a home)
    Lowry (Fitting in extremely well)

Loved the play of Lowry even when he was on the Grizzlies. I have my Lowry jersey on order already :)

He really really needs to improve on his jumper, but I will give him credit that he never settles for a jumper. I think the two 3s he shot so far one was to beat the shot clock last night and the other was when he was so wide open he had to take it. Otherwise he loves getting into the lane and going for the higher % shots...thats exactly what we need.

AB can get into the lane but his frame makes it hard for him to go charging into the lane. He is great at spacing the floor for Yao of course.

Lowry already does a much better job at getting into the lane and dishing to his teammates better than Rafer did.

I dont know about you guys but watching him play last night made me absolutely giddy. If he keeps developing he has NBA starter written all over him (he really needs to improve his outside shot)

AB and Lowry are a great young PG combo both love to push the ball and put pressure on the defense, both are much better at finishing in the open court than Rafer ever was and both are not "dribblers" they keep the ball moving if they are not attacking. At times Rafer had SF3 syndrome where he kept dribbling over and over trying to get people in positions and then just hoisted up a shot.

Lowry just needs a kick ass nick name now.

Depends on the data you use to compare the two. I know its shic to hate on Alston, but he is factualy a playoff experienced point guard whose play helped get us there. In addition, his loss to injury is probably why we lost to Utah. Lowry is potentially better than Alston, but I just can't see how you can say he is "much better".

I like Lowry, but I haven't seen a large enough body of work yet to make a judgement. Rafer looked awesome for stretches too. I do like how Lowry attacks the basket though. I wish he would get more calls then he has.

No more awful tear-drop and bad TO. Thank goodness. This kid can take it to the rim over opposing pg.

I think Lowry projects as a long-term PG for the Rockets. As a starter if we can't get better, but certainly as a back-up. He's got good athleticism and enough court vision to stick around for a good long while. He's certainly got more in those respects than Brooks, but the outside shooting is a great equalizer between the two.

I like Brooks a lot too, but I think he looks more like a guy Morey could use in a year or two as a trade chip when his value maxes out, with teams like Phoenix and Sacramento that have always coveted him. We need him too much now, but what happens next year when Lowry becomes as used to the system as he?

Don't think for a second that Morey has stopped looking for a superstar PG. This is a league that is now ruled by them.

I think that as time goes on, we'll discover that he has a very good midrange game. I'll take it! We have other guys who can bomb from downtown.

I like the the competition at the pg spot, i think both players will work to get better from it.

I like him as a starter if he works on shooting. Reminds me of a slasher version of Bob Sura. Tough as nails, distributes well and hustles

Lowry... please work with Calvin Murphy on your jumper. You could add a starting PG to you resume'. His jumper is the only thing holding him back.

Don't forget his 6 points and 7 assists in 19 minutes.

Agreed. But right now his teammates don't trust his outside shooting. It was obvious last night when late in shotclock they hesitate to pass to him even he was open.

Point well made, all of us here have been wondering where that has been. I wish AB could pick this up as well. Easy buckets for Yao.

much has been made out that the kid not having a jumper......i still thinks he has a good stroke. he is a sound basketball player. he knows he doesn't have the range out to the 3 point line so he rarely takes a shot from there...but if he takes a few steps in, he can make that jumper....i've seen him do it in memphis. i think his stroke is good enough from 18-20 feet. we'll probably see that soon. as to his 3 point shooting...i think he'll eventually add that to his game. the amazing thing about lowry is that he actually has more experience than brooks playing in the nba..... he has consistent minutes in memphis for 2 and half years and he is 1 year younger than brooks.......he will be the man in due time

All he needs to do now is take about a billion shots this summer and get a shooting coach, or take whatever pill Marvin Williams took for three point shooting (from 25%, 25%, 10% , to 36% is nothing short of amazing!)

He could be very scary with a consistent jump shot.

Lowrey is already better than Brooks at running the offense and appears to have a more cerebral understanding of how to play the game.

Although I have never been as big a Brooks fan as others, I think we have a nice 1-2 punch developing at the point.

if rafer only had half the composure this kid has, we would have beaten someone in the playoffs the previous seasons

    i agree

Lowry has good form on his shot and can shoot the midrange well from what I've read/seen in memphis. He needs to work on expanding that range.

He has good form he just needs to work on it, unlike Rafer who has terrible form from the way he shoots the ball. bringing it up from the side of his hip, he almost has like two hands on top of the ball and the ball is swin...ack i cant even think about rafer shot and have it not make me feel sick.

Lowry has the tools he just needs to work on his game in the offseason

I like the fact that we can switch between the 2. If defenses start sagging off Lowry we can go to Brooks, who can hit the 3 and make defenders play honest. If AB is having trouble getting to the bucket we can insert Lowry who runs a good pnr with Yao already and can score in the paint if ignored.

He's certainly going to get a lot more open looks than he did in Memphis -- that alone should raise his % a bit.

In watching him these first few games, I've been blown away by how calm and collected he looks out there, especially since he's had so little practice time with the team. Count me among those who think Lowry will be our starting PG by next season, if not sooner.

The thing I like about him is that he knows his own shooting deficiency, so he try to drive closer in, or kick to another open teammate, he doesn't jack up a 3 just for the sake of him being open.
