A naked choke executed properly gets the right arm positioned underneath the mandible, making biting very difficult. The rider choke that you describe does not take advantage of pushing the head down, which makes it even harder to breath. I suppose I can see your point, however. In the naked choke, the fatter part of the arm is underneath the jaw making it somewhat easier to be bitten, whereas in the rider choike, the jaw is closer to the wrist, providing less of a biting target. If submission is your goal, it's hard to beat the naked choke, as the subject will lose access to oxygen much faster.

Agreed that the naked choke is a match ender in submission fighting.

In any case, the Red Sox-Yankees seires will be high drama. I haven't been this excited about playoff baseball in a long time.

The thing I found funny was that the A's that were complaining were Tejada and Hatteberg. Let's see what they batted in the series...Tejada was .067 or something like that and Hatteberg was .167 or so. Little wonder that they would get upset about something like that...

I think Hatteberg will always be mad at Boston because he felt that they didn't give him a chance. I'm sorry but I don't think he is better than Varitek at C.

As for Manny's saunter...the more I thought about it, the more I think these things:

    1) Manny is in his own world. I doubt many people here read the Boston Globe as much as I have had in the past, but there are articles all the time that talks about how Manny has done some odd type things. He gave a clubhouse attendant when he was in Cleveland a thousand dollars just because the guy parked his car or something like that:eek:

    2) Having a terrible series up to that point had worn on him. And let me ask this question: If you feel that your opponent has no respect for you then how are you expected to respect them back? My point is that Manny might have felt that the Oakland pitchers had no respect for them, so when he finally busted out, he was going to let them know that he didn't liked getting dissed. However, once again it is a theory and I only mention it because of the weirdness that goes on in his head.

    3) If it bothers the A's that much, trust me they will hit him or someone else the first time they play next season. These things always work themselves out unless you happen to be Roger Clemens going against the Mets, lol.

    That's one violent looking fan.

I hate cops for reasons like this. Why is it necessary to fight taunting with violence? I know all cops aren't like this, but I find a lot of them to be unreasonable and find that they resort to violence too often. I hope the officer gets in trouble for that incident. I can't stand cops trying to muscle people to get their way. Cop never gave the kid a chance to leave under his own accord. The cops presence would have been enough to calm him down, yet...

cops like this make me hate cops.(no offense to the real good guys)

So what if D-Lowe intentionally made the crotch chop? Who cares! Guy is entitled to celebrate. The A's need to focus on the bigger picture of choking year after year, instead of looking at peripheral distractions. Tejada should pay the Sox back by coming through in playoffs, and not sucking like he did. What a bunch of nancy boys! COWBOY UP ladies!

I AGREE WITH YOU. WHY THE HELL IS THE COP USING THE CHOKE HOLD ON THE KID? DID HE ATTACK THE OFFICER? IF HE DID NOT THEN THE COP HAD NO RIGHT TO USE THE HOLD. THE KID SHOULD FILE SUIT

Thank goodness only Manny could assume such a thing because if he thought he was being disrespected because the A's were willing to pitch to him, then he better start taking some Barry Bonds' steroids. Shoot, the A's could have kept "disrespecting" him if Barry had thrown the curve rather than the fastball. And why didn't Foulke throw a 3-2 changeup to Ortiz?!?! (Can you tell I'm still in disbelief).

Don't worry too much about the A's getting revenge next season. They complained about Pierzynski after last year's choke and when they finally faced him, I don't think they even threw him a brush back pitch.

Anyways, good luck to your team Manny. I'll be watching the ALCS, if just to watch one of the best rivalries in sports.

Thanks for the well wishes, derrock.

Oakland will still be the best team in the AL West, simply because of their rotation of Zito, Mulder, Hudson, plus Lilly and Rich Harden. Bobby Crosby is a highly regarded, from what I hear, shortstop.
