Cool story about today's technology helping us hear Alexander Graham Bell's recording from 1885. Go to the link to hear the recording.
Amazing. I'd read about being able to retrieve audio from old vinyl, but this is a whole different level.
I remember when they first released those recordings a couple of years ago, it just blew my mind. So damn cool. And now to hear A. G. Bell's voice is incredible. What's sad is the part about his granddaughter telling the reporter Bell sounded like him. She passed away just 6-7 years ago. It would've been nice to let her hear grandfather's voice again. Here's a 2011 article with a video showing how they pulled the info from the ancient media : http://www.cnn.com/2011/12/27/living/bell-digital-imaging <object width="416" height="234" classid="clsid27CDB6E-AE6D-11cf-96B8-444553540000" id="ep_1986"><param name="allowfullscreen" value="true" /><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always" /><param name="wmode" value="transparent" /><param name="movie" value="http://i.cdn.turner.com/cnn/.element/apps/cvp/3.0/swf/cnn_embed_2x_container.swf?site=cnn&profile=desktop&context=embed&videoId=bestoftv/2011/12/27/tsr-todd-graham-bell-recordings.cnn&contentId=bestoftv/2011/12/27/tsr-todd-graham-bell-recordings.cnn" /><param name="bgcolor" value="#000000" /><embed src="http://i.cdn.turner.com/cnn/.element/apps/cvp/3.0/swf/cnn_embed_2x_container.swf?site=cnn&profile=desktop&context=embed&videoId=bestoftv/2011/12/27/tsr-todd-graham-bell-recordings.cnn&contentId=bestoftv/2011/12/27/tsr-todd-graham-bell-recordings.cnn" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" bgcolor="#000000" allowfullscreen="true" allowscriptaccess="always" width="416" wmode="transparent" height="234"></embed></object>
