That is such a terribly cynical perspective.

So because they are paid they can’t be props? It’s plenty of props allowing themselves to be used for financial gains

20 plus allegations against a QB that wasn't going to be on the team made a head coaching job undesirable for people who spent their entire careers pursuing an opportunity for one of only 32 that jobs exist in the entire world? That's the argument you want to try to make?

I want a HC that places a competent OC and DC on his staff. I do not want a HC who still calls plays.

Obviously they were not going to have Watson, no Star QB because of WATSON’s actions and were in cap hell. Stop deflecting blame from him.

Because his perverted ways are what started the need for a tear down and complete rebuild.

They were unqualified and shouldn't have been hired to begin with.

    Oh well, they got paid.

I think ultimately it just comes down to a team full of incompetence that expected unqualified job candidates to produce miraculous results given their setup.

The team was hellbent on hiring someone that wasn't qualified, based off of how both coaching searches went. We have no idea why.

I would like to think gross incompetence coupled with a disastrous reputation limited the candidate pool.

Yup - anyone we were going to hire last year was going to be underqualified (Smith) or unqualified (McCown).

    Dumpster fire to boot.

I was with you until the last sentence.

More blacks voted for the GOP when Trump was running than ever before. Blacks like having jobs and more money in their pockets(less inflation) Who would have thunk it.

This kind of media stuff is what keeps owners from hiring black candidates. It's not worth the trouble or scrutiny. This is an uncomfortable truth.

BTW, the media must have forgotten that the McNair's kept a minority GM around for 12 yrs and they should have fired him when they fired Kubiak. But hey the McNair's are racists. Lamo

Gannon would have been a justifiable hire.

Lol…what a garbage segment. No reason was given as to why Smith should not have been fired. Basically CNN wanted a reason to talk about a lack of diversity in the NFL so they scapegoated the Texans.

Why? If he was the primary problem, you trade him for top picks, draft a QB, and you've fixed that plus gotten multiple other picks. His situation did not cause the rest of the team to suck, or let Jack Easterby run wild and cause endless chaos, or them to hire two dumb coaches, or anything else.

That goes against the narrative…ever since the “inmates running the prison” comment from Bob McNair the national media has shat on the Texans.

You are so eager to scream ‘This is not racist!’ you’re missing the point. No one credible is going to want to coach here white or black because of how the Texans have handled the previous two coaches and the incompetence of the front office. This is why the McNairs should’ve completely cleaned house and fired Caserio. They would’ve avoided the racism accusations and would have given themselves the best chance at hiring one of the better coaches this off-season.

Because it’s not about race…it’s about incompetence. Culley and Smith should never have been hired in the first place. The Texans are a hot mess right now. No one can deny that…but to bring up race when discussing why these 2 were let go is just silly.

Well as most ppl have mentioned here, none of those competent head coaches wanted the job. And when they talked about McCown everyone called them racist for going with an unqualified white guy, so we went with an unqualified black guy. I truly don’t think the plan was to be one and done with lovie, but good lord we were ranked 30th or worst in every category offense AND defense. How do you keep a job after that? I don’t care what color you are.
