The whole point of the lawsuit were black folks got the short end of the stick, hired on tanking teams and replaced with white ones when the tank is over. Texans think they are quite big brain, 2 hire a bunch of bad black coaches thinking it would justify this potential McCown hiring. Caserio should b fired for this sht. He's supposed to hire the most capable and competent. Race is an influence of course but to hire two poor black candidates makes me questioned caserio ability to do his job properly unless this was all intentionally to hire McCown
I honestly believe that the league stepped in after Brian Flores' lawsuit to stop Nick and Jack from hiring their guy (McClown) because had they done so, it would have conclusively proven Flores' case. Folks here are getting hung up on the term "racist" which really doesn't apply here because black coaches are not even deemed important enough for this organization to expend the effort to oppress them. But they are perfectly fine for when they need fall guys or scapegoats to exploit.
100 Exactly. Hire two guys knowing that not only is the mission heavily stacked against them…but then AS AN ORGANIZATION wanted the HC’s to suck enough to get top picks for a full blown rebuild, and then blame said HC’s by firing them for doing what them team wanted them to do. LOL! But naw…it’s all in our heads and we’re just “over-thinking.” GTFOH!
Texans are taking a page out of the Miami Dolphin playbook when the fired Brian Flores last year. They too leaked unfavorable things about Flores to the media when he was fired. When things like this are leaked, the right question to ask is why did Caserio promote him to head coach in the first place when he was in the organization for a whole year as a DC under Culley.
All of this back and forth regarding racism… The problem was the Culley hire. Likely no one wanted the HC job with the cap issues, lack of 1st rounders, lack of roster talent, Easterby, and the Watson situation. So some idiot thought let’s give a black guy a shot to show how wonderful we are. Except you had to fire him because of how ridiculously in over his head he was. They had to know how hard this was going to be. Either keep Culley no matter how bad it was or they should have hired some safe veteran HC like Lovie in 2021 and let him be the fall guy once the cap cleared up two years later. Perception is reality. Firing two black coaches in back to back years looks terrible where you could have fired 1 after two years and looked fine. Would have the same likely end result of wins and losses etc. Nick’s seat should be hotter than the sun. He’s done nothing but make poor cap, draft, and coaching decisions since he’s been here.
Pretty sure the next coach candidate is either McCown or some white coach. Texans fulfill their quota of hiring black coaches incompetent or not.
It doesn't matter. Coaches need time to build their rosters and develop their schemes and chemistry. Getting the right coach 2 years ago would give them a head start on building the team instead of starting over yet again. How do you draft personnel to fit your team when you're changing all your schemes every year?
As you know, I have been in Chicago for a long time now and I followed the Bears very closely under Lovie Smith and even after Lovie Smith. What I can say is that there are VERY few coaches that players enjoy playing for more than Lovie Smith. Even his critics in Chicago would admit that players (especially on the defensive end) were extremely close to Smith. To this day, his former players will tell you that as a leader and a man, Lovie Smith is great. The issues with Smith were from the front office and the media. Lovie Smith strongly believed that whatever he told the media should be taken at face value and not questioned, even when what he said was obviously not accurate. That caused a lot of tension in a city with media that seemed to enjoy ripping apart any coach that wasn't winning Super Bowls. As far as the front office was concerned, Lovie Smith believed that he should have total control of what happened on and around the football team. He was largely in control of the defense and wanted all of the high draft picks and most of the free agent signings to be on that side of the ball. He was overall very good at talent evaluation defensively, but they had to be guys that fit his system and he had zero flexibility. His defenses tended to be very good, but offensively all he really was concerned about was avoiding turnovers. He wanted a "gamer" QB that would game manager and hand the ball off to running backs behind a big offensive line. It got to the point where he would even have his QB throw to running backs and TE's before receivers. He had success with this formula, but there was a cap to how successful it would be. Eventually they took offensive accountability away from him and the OC ran that entire side of the ball. However, even if the offense was very good, a turnover was enough for Smith to try and take control of the offense and neuter his OC. I wasn't a fan of the Smith hire in the context that the Texans just fired a similar high character coach and basically paid him to go away.... now the Texans are doing what was inevitable, firing Smith and giving him money to go away. As for whether the front office or ownership pressured him or gave veiled reference to perhaps losing........ wouldn't matter to Lovie Smith. He is old and wealthy and his personality is such that he isn't ever going to throw a game or play any other way. Caserio should have stepped in and said that certain players would not play..... so this debacle in week 17 isn't on Smith. Also, Lovie Smith is WELL past his prime. His style of play and schemes were dated 15 years ago, and now are behind what top high school programs run.
Michael Irvin lol. Somebody should ask him if Jerry would ever hire a black coach since he’s so quick to blast the Texans about Lovie and Culley.
