It's so fun watching Deke work out there every night. He can shut down the middle so well for a man his age. If a guy attacks the basket, it's either a block are a really tough shot attempt. If Yao can learn to play D like Deke, and eventually get as much respect as Deke does, then we will have the best team in the league.

Seriously, the Mutombo pick-up in the off-season was as important as any of the other deasl we've made this year. He's given us great minutes off the bench. He plays tough, gets rebounds, blocks shots, and most importantly, gives JVG the flexibility to sit Yao when he's in foul trouble. This is the perfect role for him, a key role player with meaningful minutes on a contending team, and I think Mutombo cherishes this opportunity also.

    Good thread.

I didn't like it when we picked him up, thought he was over the hill, had a bad attitude for playing time, etc. But I've to say I was wrong. The guy has been better than anyone has expected.

Deke is a fan favorite in Houston....
When I was doing the High 5 club thingy he was the only Rocket who came and shook my hand.....

I would like to see him finish his career here....

Last night Deke got the ball down low on the left block. Everyone knew what he was going to do...move toward the center and jump hook. Bingo...money in the bank and no way to stop it. I love that guy!

He can't do it anymore. It's a technical for taunting. :(
He can wag it, just not directly at an opponent.

I think you are right. I used to be annoyed when he did it. Now that he is on our team, I just love to see he wags finger to tick off the opposing side.

I agree 100%. When was playing against us it was taunting and offensive, now that he's with us, it's just plain fun. :D
