Auburn won't be in the SEC championship Arkansas (with 2 losses) beats a 1 loss Florida team for the SEC championship Texas as the Big XII champ secures their spot as no. 2 in the nation and faces tOSU.
rutgers is too far in the standings to contend for the BCS title game anyways they pulled a big solid for the 1 loss teams they deserve a BCS game though- congrats to Rutgers and Coach Schiano.
I'm not saying they will go to the BCS championship game at all. I want the Longhorns to make it. But Rutgers won't lose to WV either. I would love to see Rutgers at the TEXAS Bowl in Houston if that is even possible.
I'm not worried about Florida. They play a 2A team next week and finish off at Florida ST. The Bowdens will bring it for the final game.
oh man you've lost it. I think you forgot the anyhow...a tOSU win v. michigan helps texas more, correct? and if we don't make it to #2 are we going to be stuck with a crappy bowl opponent like boise state?
I spent some time at UT and I would love rutgers to go to the national championship, and I'm not opposed to the BCS. I just think it would be a great story. did you guys see them have the oldest rutgers alum on before the game. dude was 110 years old. he graduated in 19 freakin 17. good stuff
No way. WVU is a better team, a much more talented team on both sides of the ball. It will be for a BCS bowl. It will be with a nutty home crowd. I expect a spanking. WVU won't turn the ball over like they did versus Lou and will win by 2 TDs, maybe more. Thanks Rut for knocking off Lou though!!! As long as Texas wins out not unimpressively they have a great shot. Florida has 3 loseable games left. If both win out it will be it will be tight. Might depend on what other teams do, because Florida may need a buffer in the computers (teams like Cal or ND or SC or Aub or Rut ahead of Tex but behind FL in the comps) to make up voter ground. Florida beating a 1 loss Auburn or 1 loss Ark would help them with voters, but Auburn would need to run the table and have Arkansas lose twice, or Ark would have to beat LSU and Tenn, to give Florida their shot at a last top 10 victory. Texas needs to take care of business and they probably go to the NC game. Of course a Florida (FSU, SCar) loss really puts them in the driver seat. Every small loss helps--Aub (Geor, Bama), Ark (Tenn or LSU but not both), SC (say losing to Ore but beating Cal and ND), Cal (AZ and SC team picking up another loss), TOSU/Mich (Indy/NW), or Rutgers (WV). In the end, if Texas wins out, probably only 1-loss Florida or 1-loss Auburn winning the SEC has much of a chance to keep them out. A fluke loss by TOSU or Mich in their common game could get things muddy too, but as long as one loses solidly they are out. Texas does need to get a solid hold of the 3 spot with voters through that Mich-Osu game, and winning impressive should ensure that.
Yeah - a big factor will be the polls at the end of this weekend. If Texas can be a *solid* #3 rather than splitting votes with Florida, then it's possible that the OSU/Michigan loser next weekend can wedge themselves between UT and Florida - that makes it much easier for UT. If UT/Florida are very close at 3 and 4, that becomes far less likely and UT's road is much more difficult.
If Rutgers loses to WV, and they have a 3-way round robin of one-loss teams, who gets the BCS Bowl in that conference?
Highest ranked team in the BCS poll which would probably be West Virginia since they would get the win against the undefeated team in the last game of the season and probably shoot up in the polls.
It's goofy rules like that which make me appreciate the B12 championship game and having a concrete winner!
I'm not one to go for conspiracies but I think a TX/OSU rematch would gross more than any other matchup (assuming Michigan/OSU won't be given a rematch).
But remember Florida is behind Aub as well in the polls, who beat them mid-season. Florida probably only leaps Aub and gets close to Texas with voters if Texas looks unimpressive OR if they beat Auburn in a rematch. That rematch only happens if Ark loses twice. Possible Florida gets close to Texas in the polls if they beat a 1 loss Ark handily. It may come down to style points between Tex-Flor but the teams ahead of Texas in the comps and ahead of Florida in the polls are important. I am about as worried about a soft losing (e.g., fluke or last minute) Mich or OSU in the BCS as Florida. Mich/OSU with 1 loss will be high in the computers--surely ahead of Texas, don't want them too close to Texas with the voters with many in between teams in the comps. The best thing for Texas is to win impressive and have the 1 loss teams all over started adding a 2nd. Rutgers losing helps too.
Rutgers wasn't supposed to beat Louisville and they did. I'd like to see Rutgers win on the road. At any event, It's LONGHORN TIME NOW!
