DEI statements are mostly bullshitte . . . which is to say the essays that people write as DEI statements are mostly bullshitte. The idea or concept of a DEI statement is fine, even noble. But it would be very difficult to write a DEI statement without bullshitting. And I think that is what employers (university or otherwise) are finding out. Even advocates of DEI statements realize the essays that get produced are mostly bullshitte.
