They only draw for the top 3 teams. The rest of the teams are sorted by record. If your team doesn't show up in the order it should (going by probabilities), it means you're in the top 3.
You either pick in the top 3 or you pick in the highest spot you can if you didn't win the lottery. There are no other positions you can be at.
Because the lottery itself is to see if you get one of the top 3 picks. If you don't get one of those picks, you fall back into your original slot based on team record. Its really teams 1-14 vying for picks 1 through 3.
i wonder that too... only thing i can think of is protected picks in a trade. (isn't there a top 3 thing)
I don't think that was it. They acted like there was some kind of formula or something. It was almost like "because they aren't picking 6th, that means they will definitely be picking in the top 3" as if there was some kind of reasoning behind it. They weren't revealing anything during the show in order not to spoil it for viewers.
This is how it works - they draw three numbers for the top three picks. The rest fall into place by record. So when they skip a team when calling them in ascending order, then it means their number was drawn for the top three picks.
i wonder if donald sterling would sell that pick to cut costs... i mean that's guaranteed money for 3 years. get on it DM!!!
well looks like the team i didnt want to win it did not sure how they'll screw it up but they will they'll choose rubio with the first pick
Guaranteed contract at an affordable price though. Those upper level rookie contracts are good for teams not bad.
I should clarify that the only teams that actually lose their slotted position are the teams who finished with the worst 3 records. So in essence, The Clippers and Grizzlies knocked the Kings and Wizards out of the lottery by winning, since the Kings were knocked out they were guaranteed to pick 4th since they were the team with the worst record to not win the lottery, and the wizards pick 5th since they were the 2nd worst team, etc.
Wonder if the Grizzlies will take Rubio, they can't be happy with Mike Conley at this point... plus Marc Gasol is already there to be his pal.
