They won't even get close to 49 wins. This has to be one of the most uninteresting, uninspiring, and thoroughly mediocre group of players in Rocket's uniforms. I have stopped watching them for now. I still find this discussion board interesting, but that may change soon.
Still time to turn it around, but really looks hard without a trade. McGrady is injured, and everybody on our team is far too inconsistent. Problem is even if we are a lottery team, we'd likely be around .500 meaning 12-14 range in terms of picks and nothing real special in this draft that late. Kind of sad really, hopefully we can turn it around
I can't believe how many posters think we're going to get roughly 50 wins. Heck, real fans would predict 60 wins! Reasonable people see a team that has trouble doing even the basics right (FTs, layups, team defense, entry passes). It is hard to win games if you can't even do the basics. Let's face it, we have a huge deficit in teams of talent. We have Rafer Alston and Chuck Hayes as our STARTERS. That should tell you how bad we really are.
2007 WC seeds 5-Houston Rockets (52-30) 6-Denver Nuggets (45-37) 50 wins would get the Rockets up to 5 seed. Book that; if you beleive in 50ish wins, you beleive in the 5 seed Until the Rockets get 60 win seasons, they're never going to reach 4 seed+ anyways because of the friggen divisional championships and how damn good the Southwest is. Still, a 5 seed gives the Rockets a very winnable series, since it's probably not going to be SA, DAL or PHX.
That's what really sucks. If you're heading towards the lottery - tank baby! The only good thing that can come out of not making the playoffs is the chance to draft a stud (and not trading them for a role player), and studs usually don't fall out of the top five (except Rudy Gay).
He's been listening to the wrong Linkin Park song. <object width="425" height="355"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/P5FvU8qAOGE&rel=1"></param><param name="wmode" value="transparent"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/P5FvU8qAOGE&rel=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" width="425" height="355"></embed></object> I cannot take this anymore I'm saying everything I've said before All these words they make no sense I find bliss in ignorance Less I hear the less you'll say You'll find that out anyway Just like before... Even if the Rockets miss the playoffs this year I'll still be watching. The Rockets have had to make a huge adjustment this year with Adelman and it's not really surprising that they've had difficulty making that adjustment. There's still plenty of room for improvement and I'm hoping that the offense gels and that the team can put together some impressive wins/runs after the All Star break, even if there's no shot of making the playoffs by that point. I'll keep watching in the hopes that Scola and Brooks blossom into starters. If we can get some more beautiful basketball like the Rockets have shown in flashes that's reason enough to watch. Hopefully they can become completely consistent in playing the system rather than regressing every other quarter. And at the very least the Rockets can lay the foundation for next year.
If ya need a feel good story to boost you back up, here's one for ya. Remember those SOB's from UTAH who knocked us out of the playoffs? Well here's the their record and I'll bet their fans are crying that they will be lottery bound too. 17-16 overall record. Guess what, they are right there with us. http://www.sportsnetwork.com/default.asp?c=sportsnetwork&page=nba/news/acn4119957.htm Utah needs more from Okur (Sports Network) - The defending Northwest Division champion Utah Jazz own a disappointing 17-16 record and are in third place in the standings. They are 2 1/2 games behind the first place Denver Nuggets and trail the second place Portland Trail Blazers by two games. Last season, center Mehmet Okur averaged 17.6 points and 7.2 rebounds in 80 games. He earned a spot on the Western Conference All-Star team and played in his first NBA All-Star Game. This season has been a different story for the 6-11 Okur. The 28-year-old center is averaging 11.6 points and 5.0 rebounds this season. He is shooting just 38.9 percent from the field, down from 46.2 percent last season. Okur's play was a major factor in Utah winning 51 games during the 2006-07 campaign. Okur missed two weeks with a shoulder injury and is back in the lineup. He has posted just 8.3 points and 4.5 rebounds in his last four outings. The Jazz, who made it to the 2007 Western Conference finals, need Okur to start playing up to his ability if they hope to repeat as division champions and make some noise in the postseason. The Philadelphia 76ers play the fourth of a six-game road trip, as they visit the Utah Jazz on Wednesday at EnergySolutions Arena. It is the second and final meeting of the campaign between the clubs. On November 28th, Carlos Boozer scored 26 points and pulled down seven rebounds to lead the Jazz to a 106-95 win over Philadelphia at the Wachovia Center. The Jazz have won four of the last five contests in the series. Philadelphia has lost two straight and five of its last six at Utah. The Jazz and Sixers made a trade just days ago. On December 29th, Philadelphia acquired guard Gordan Giricek and a first-round pick from Utah in exchange for Kyle Korver. Both players have played one game for their new squad. Utah concludes a three-game homestand against the Sixers. Boozer paced a balanced Utah attack with 19 points as the Jazz halted Portland's 13-game winning streak with a 111-101 victory on Monday at EnergySolutions Arena. Deron Williams finished with 18 points and eight assists for the Jazz, who snapped a two-game skid. Matt Harpring came off the bench to score 15 points and pull down eight rebounds, while Andrei Kirilenko and Paul Millsap both netted 14 in the victory. The Jazz are 11-3 at home this season. They will visit Brandon Roy and the Trail Blazers on Saturday at the Rose Garden. Boozer leads the Jazz in scoring (24.1 ppg) and rebounding (11.4 rpg), while Williams is averaging a team-best 8.7 rebounds per game.
And they are playing with a full roster.. I don't think any of their players have missed more than a couple games have the?
Says the member since 2007 to the member since 2002. For over twenty years I've watched every single Rockets game I could manage. I lived in Spain for a while and I stayed up til' 2:30 am to START watching the play by play in clutchfans chat. I'm a die hard Rocket fan to the core, and I kind of agree with the original poster. It's hard to care when they don't seem to care. This is the first season I can remember where I just don't watch two and three games at a time and I really don't mind missing them.
Ok, so loyalty to a team is based on when you joined this forum ? Give me a break, just because you joined this forum before me doesn't make you more of a fan than anyone else. Thats some ridiculous logic. Hell, if the Rockets never make the playoffs again, I'd still watch all the games and support the team. Just because I love basketball and the city of Houston. And if it really means that much to you, I've been a lurker for some years and had other monikers in the past.
I think I am ticked off at this team BECAUSE I am a big fan and I do watch the games. I never gave up on the Astros, Oilers, Rockets or Texans and I have been a fan for 47 yrs. But it is because I love the Rockets that it makes me sick to watch them go from contender to pretender. You don't need to improve the roster and take a step back. If we don't improve over last year this will be a disaster of a season and I will blame Les Alexander. I am a Houston Rocket fan and not just a Yao, Tracy, Les, RickA fan. In fact I support these guys because they are Rockets.
Some of you define a "true" fan as someone who is delusional. The Rockets are what they are, they are not what you think they might become. They are what they are, a .500 team who doesn't really play very well, with or without TMac. The starting lineup at the beginning of the season was actually the best predictor of things to come. Let's face it, JVG squeezed an enormous amount of productivity out of a thoroughly mediocre supporting cast. Adelman has actually more to work with, but has done less. This is a very uninspiring group, and besides the "Sura" team, it has a been a twelve year long wait for quality. Still waiting, but thoroughly bored. "It's PAST time." Your name is a great summary of what the Rockets are. Can they rise from their estate, I wouldn't wager much.
There is a HUGE difference in the Jazz' situation and ours. They have DENVER and PORTLAND ahead of them. We have San Antonio, Dallas, and New Orleans ahead of us. What's the difference? Portland is young, dumb (I mean this in the nicest way - maybe inexperienced is a better word), and about one injury away from heading south in a hurry. Denver is good.....so maybe they are legit as a division contending team. But they are no San Antonio nor Dallas team. New Orleans I can probably lump into the same category with Portland....but they seem to have it together when I watch them play....even down the stretch. But I COMPLETELY agree that the Jazz struggling IS a FEEL GOOD story nonetheless.
I think we are going to finish with a 46-36 record. We havent played Minny and Seattle. We only played the clippers once. We probably should be able to sweep them if we fight for our life. If we can keep playing the 500 ball against the rest of teams, we should be 10 games over when the season is done. A 7th seed. If Denver is 3rd seed, and Dalls is the 4th, I wouldnt want to be the 5th. So If we can get the 6th seed, we should be able to beat Denver easy in the first round. We still have hopes.
