It is possible for people to survive a sub explosion. Thats not really far fetched. As for all the questions not being answered, its ok to me. Leaving some things to interpretation is actually all right. Its cool to hear what other people think about certain things, case in point this thread.
I watched the first episode of season 6 last night. There were some definite clues. 1. I think Rose was awakened from the beginning, and Bernard was too shortly thereafter. 2. When Jack is describing to Locke in the airport that Oceanic lost his father, he says "he's somewhere in transit".
Desmond could have killed them all since he thought that all their collective consciousnesses would just transfer to what he thought was the other life. In the way that awake Charlie thought his alternate life "didn't matter," it seems Desmond had the same perspective towards his real life. Since it was the afterlife I guess they all would have transferred over to that afterlife, but whether or not the uncorking worked would have left them with the same result, so at least to me, it makes things concerning MIB and good and evil even less meaningful.
I've read those criticisms too...in different things around the net. It is sad to me that we can all become so blindly captured by our own "perfect knowledge of reality" that we can't appreciate the beauty of a different perspective. To allow one's hate for faith/religion to control you to the point that you can't find connection with deeper themes (like love and friendship and living with purpose) when they're played out so plainly...is just sad. And I truly truly don't mean that in a condescening way at all. I have an old college friend who is a pastor of a church in Houston...he wrote a book called "The Gosepl According to Lost." The writers invited him to tons of events...he watched the Season 6 premiere with the cast!!! Evangeline Lilly got out of a car WITH HIS BOOK IN HER HAND ALREADY! (he had the greatest pictures on his facebook page with her with his book walking down the red carpet). He ended up watching the finale with a bunch of the cast in L.A. Here's his take on the finale...and the impact of the entire show: http://www.christianitytoday.com/ct/movies/commentaries/2010/lostindisappointment.html I watched it last night....finally!! Honestly, I thought the Christian metaphors were absolutely dominant. To the point that I thought the stained glass window with all the other icons of different faith traditions appeared forced...like they threw it in there saying, "but we're really not trying to offend anyone." I really enjoyed the wrap up. I will miss this show. It lost me for a while with all the time travel. I stopped watching for a bit. But the last couple of seasons (once they stopped flipping around) sucked me right back in. I will absolutely buy the dvd's...and look forward to watching them again with my kids.
I'm an atheist and I have no problems with the ending. The entire story as about Faith, so what is the problem. Furthermore, It is about an island who can make sure some people do not die, and a large cloud of black smoke that can change in human form and kills 100 of people, but when an afterlife is mentioned people draw the line. To bad this show ended, i loved it and it is the favorite show of me and my girlfriend. We watched it almost from the beginning of our relationship, and now we are getting married in 4 weeks, and this show ends. That just sems like destiny
I have no belief in any particular religion and the end was great to me too. Just so peaceful and beautiful. The scene with Christian and Jack really hit a nerve as my own parents passed on some time back. Really great show. I am looking forward to the Season 6 collection to see whats added on. I hope that ABC or Disney doesn't try to keep making money off this stuff and ruin it.
I'm not that way at all. When I love something, I want as much of it as possible. I wish it would never end.
