I do understand that, but he was clearly a focus for at least one whole season. I think we are owed a little bit more of an explanation for what the whole obsession was. People on both sides were killed, and many lives were risked all for Walt. People make a big deal about Mr. Echo, and he was a cool character, but nowhere near the focus of activity that Walt was as far as the early story goes. The writers need to come up with something. To just abandon it is way more lame than not addressing Echo.
i do remember when walt was at his mother's house and he brought a (i think butterfly) back to life, and he did a couple of other things. so i understand what your saying. but if someone i knew had a child kidnapped in that situation i would try to help get him back also. and in that situation on a island probably defending my own life i would do anything to help them get his son back. just sayin
I'm not judging any characters actions, but to put major characters who had point of view episodes about them through that stuff, and make it such a big focus early on, is just kind of lame to let it go without mentioning it. Like I said I understand the actor grew up, and it would be hard to make it interesting TV to tie up the loose ends without being able to have the character on screen, but I realize I won't get my wish. I still enjoy the show, and will watch this episode(at a later time) as well as the show's final episode. It's just one thing that I think could have been handled a little better, but oddly enough many people don't ever bring up Walt.
I feel exactly the same way you do. The first season and maybe the second season too, made us all believe that Walt was a key to the Island and why they were there. Sadly though, he has barely been mentioned the last couples of seasons so I highly doubt they will explain what was so special or important about him. We just have to do what the writers want us to do and forget that he even existed in the first place. That's how I feel about this show. I, and everyone else who has watched every single episode, have invested SO MUCH TIME into this series that at this point I just want the show to end and have SOME closure. It's been a real roller coaster, started our amazingly good, then good bad, then got really bad, then got so bad I was convinced the writers thought the show would have been cancelled by now so they were just making stuff up (Sayid building houses in some foreign country only to pair up with Ben and start killing people), and now this season has had its good and its bad. I feel like Sayid (post soul abduction by Flocke) while watching this final season, just trying to finish out the series without getting too emotionally invested and just accepting things as they are, because once its all over, we will never have to worry about which questions they will choose to have answered or if they are going to ever explain why X happened ever again!!! I say that now, but knowing LOST, they will probably introduce 10 news things in the final 20 minutes of the show leaving us to wonder for forever....
It's clear at this point that the child kidnappings (ordered by Jacob via Richard to the Others) were about producing a Jacob Replacement. Children, since they can be raised and indoctrinated whereas most adults are going to resist and refuse (except for Cindy, who seems to go along with anyone that crosses her path). Walt demonstrating that he's special had Team Others/Jacob buzzing, since so did MIB. His midichlorian count is high and all that. So why did Ben let him up and go? Deal for getting freed from the hatch. Could also be that Jacob decided Walt wasn't going to work out. Either way, once he left the Island, that was that. As we've seen, Jacob had 360 candidates to sift through. Walt was just one of them. The Others went after Aaron just as hard, but were blocked. At this point, Jack seems to be the guy he's put his money on. No more need for Walt. Fair enough?

The latest "Totally Lost" is pretty good. They have some sketches with Jacob and MIB. http://www.ew.com/ew/video/0,,20313460_20313475,00.html
Wow. Great episode and a lot of information to take it. I just somehow feel that Jack is not going to be the guardian of the island though.
I feel differently. For most of this season, he's stated his desire to stay on the island. He felt it was his destiny. Aside from possibly Hurley, Jack being the candidate just makes the most sense.
It does make the most sense that's why I don't think it will happen. Hurley saying, "I'm glad it's not me" raised an eyebrow for me. But I wouldn't go against your opinion after calling the last episode.
They missed Ben's daughter getting killed in front of him ....didn't see that. But thanks for posting this. Epic.
Great ep. Restored my confidence after last week. In my dream creamy-pants vision, how cool would it be if Locke, the real Locke, the original Locke, somehow returns to be the guardian?
Honestly, I'll have to give it up to Cannonball. His posts helped cleared up alot for me to make sense of it all and to envision what may come. Interested to see what his take on tonight's episode is.
