It seems that Desmond is completely self aware in both realities except for one thing. When Fake Locke asked Desmond if he knew who he was, Desmond said that he was John Locke. Everybody else seems to realize that it is not John Locke so why could Desmond not see it?
The wry smile when he said means something; like he knows more about what will happen than Flocke does. I mean no one would just walk out into the jungle with evil and get thrown in the well unless they knew the end game would be different. (like Jesus?) He also said something like "why does everyone fear death".
Or could it be that Desmond is just playing along with the charade, wanting "John Locke" to continue calling him "Desmond", when he's not really Desmond any more...
I'm not sure Desmond was ever aware Locke was dead and/or inhabited by Smokey. Everybody else either had direct knowledge he was dead, was told he was dead, and/or had time to come to the realization that the resurrected Locke was actually the monster. But Desmond has been out of the loop. As far as he knows, Locke is Locke and he has no reason to believe otherwise.
That is a good idea. I was wondering if Desmond is actually also a candidate, but Jacob kept his candidacy a secret so as to protect him.
Really good point about Hurley - in fact, he's just about the only Lostie that truly came to terms with his daddy issue in a decent way. Are you sure? Claire? Sawyer?
wasn't Claire "infected" by the MIB and knew the difference? she referred to both Christian and fLocke as "her friend". it seems she knows things are not as they appear on the surface. MIB has been manipulating her for three years now. and Sawyer said he could just tell fLocke was different, like he wasn't afraid of anything... in fact Sawyer said "I thought you were dead" in The Substitute, I believe.
At one point a couple of episodes ago Jin told Sawyer "That is NOT Locke." to which Sawyer responded "I know but he says he can get us off this island."
The first time Sawyer saw Flocke (in "The Substitute") he says "I thought you were dead." So he obviously already knew about Locke's death. Later in the same episode, Sawyer comes to the conclusion that it's definitely not the real John Locke. As mentioned, Claire doesn't identify Smokey as Locke. When Jin was in her hut, Flocke comes in and Jin says "John?" to which Claire replies, "That's not John, this is my friend."
Just a heads up, there's going to be a previously unscheduled break between episodes 13 and 14. April 20: Episode 13 April 27: Repeat - Ab Aeterno (the Richard episode) May 4: Episode 14 May 11: Episode 15 May 18: Episode 16 May 23 (Sunday): Episodes 17 & 18 (Finale) The good news is that we don't have to wait a full week between episode 16 and the finale. Only 6 hours of Lost left.
"4 8 15 16 23 42 ..." Not sure if this was mentioned already, but recall the scene at the Chicken place where the lady at the counter says "42?" and he goes, "That's me." Hmmm ...
Does seem awfully coincidental. Could it be that 42 being listed as "Kwon" was a head-fake by Jacob, and it was Desmond all along?
Didn't he say they need him to point out where the EM pockets are since they know Jin worked for Dharma for three years?
They had a map of the island marking where the pockets of electromagnetic energy were. The map was made by the Dharma Initiative and it had Jin's signature on it. I think Widmore's plan has to do with destroying all the pockets of electromagnetic energy. Desmond can survive exposure to large amounts of electromagnetic energy so Widmore needs him to help destroy the other pockets. Jin is there, presumably, to verify the locations of these pockets. I think Smokey unwittingly made a mistake by throwing Desmond down a well that essentially marks where one of these pockets is.
