The Fuselage http://forum.thefuselage.com/ is pretty good because it is the official forum made by the LOST creative team, even some cast members post there from time to time, especially Hurley.
The Egyptian mythology is absolutely huge, though the way they've built this show, it's blended just as nicely with all the other religions. I'm a big fan of Horace Goodspeed --> Horus. The Eye of Ra = Eye of Horus, Horus conquered Set, Horus was "the Savior God", and there are clear connections of God-borrowing between the Greeks and Egyptians. Horus' Greek version? Apollo, as in Dharma's favorite chocolate bar. And Hurley's. The Egyptians were big into the dualism: the struggle for control of Upper/Lower Egypt (Horus vs Set/Seth), akin to Cain vs Abel (younger third brother? Seth) and Jacob vs Esau. God vs the Devil, Taoist Ying/Yang, Buddhist dualism between the mind and the physical, etc. Most of the time, the two struggling aspects require one another and balance (Jedi vs Sith :-D). That's getting rung clear as a bell. Jacob and the Nemesis are opposing figures, but they are a necessary combination for "something" to be in order. Smokey's "bad" but he serves some purpose on the island ("security system"?), just like the Devil isn't really an independent evil entity apart from God, but subservient. Three ways I see for the "balance" to be restored: 1. Kill NotLocke (a Benry Vader-like sacrifice!) so that 1-1 is now 0-0, but probably sacrificing the Island and its awesome sauce. 2. Put NotLocke back in his NotLocke Box/Cabin, and one of our noble heroes (Jack/Hurley/Sayid) ascend to be Jacob reincarnate to restore the 1-1 balance. 3. Take out NotLocke as before, one of our heroes ascends as before, AND one of our heroes ascends/descends to take NotLocke's place. THIS could give us our black and white rock holding, cave dwelling Adam and Eve from S1. Mini-theory I got from the Chron's Therese that's pretty nice, regarding Richard: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Al-Khidr#Relation_to_other_stories Alexander the Great and his servant cross "The Land of Darkness" to find the "Water of Life." Alex perishes, his servant makes it, drinks, becomes immortal, and becomes a consultant of sorts to prophets. Pretty neat, especially when you consider the Black Rock (Richard almost certainly tied to it as a slave) was shipwrecked in "The Dark Territory" and owned/captained by Magnus Hanso - Magnus being Latin for "Great" Less likely to be relevant: Juliette's "we could go Dutch" comment while dying. Half of me wonders if her mind was slipping between realities, like Charlotte's mind was slipping around in time as she died. The other thing I wonder about if "go Dutch" was another intentional prod by the writers. The Dharma founders were the de Groot's, which is Dutch for "The Great"
^^ He was the one guarding the building with "Room 23" that was used to brainwash Carl. Some disorganized ramblings on tonight's episode: Spoiler Dogen had to get Jack to give Sayid the poison because he can't kill him himself, much like MiB couldn't kill Jacob and had Ben do it. We're also led to believe that at some point Claire was infected, which means she died at some point (after the house she was in exploded?). This makes sense of her sitting with Christian in Jacob's cabin. Since there was no one else besides them around when Claire was "claimed," she went unharmed.
Mac's on the island, blowing up spots and optically patting down perps! I hate Kate episodes so much. Turns me off Evangeline Lilly if even just for that hour.
I am finding her character more and more irritating which is sad because its hard to not like this: Spoiler
I'm a heavy drinker of Lost kool-aid. I think the series has been firing on all cylinders since the middle of Season 3. I looked forward to the season premiere more than anything since The Phantom Menace. And I loved the season premiere. But this last episode was.... boring. The worst in 3 years. What the F happened? Suddenly my faith in the show-runners is shaken.
I call this last episode one of those "be patient" episodes.... The producers wanted us left confused for a reason.... It'll pan out later... But you just gotta stick with it.... As hard as it is to do that and even if it's boring.
I don't mind being confused, but I mind the lack of dramatic tension. It feels waaaay late in the game to be introducing these Other Others. I don't expect a rousing climax each and every single week (a slow burn is nice), but this just felt, well, flat.
It felt like a filler episode. It seems like they have those a few times every season...where not much happens until the end of the episode and they set us up with more questions for the next episode. The storylines for those whose plane didn't crash...I suspect we get those for each character going forward...just like we got flashbacks for every character? That stuff is pretty boring but I'm sure there is a point to it that will be revealed in the end. It would be funny if the two realities merge in the end and it ends with each member coming face to face with their counterpart. "Hi...I'm Jack." "Hey...me too." DOH!
Yeah, I suppose that's true (Re: filler eps) but usually they're more artfully done. In Seasons 5 and 4 we also had plenty of exposition and filler eps, but there seemed to be more tension, more forward momentum. This just felt limp, which isn't how I expected the Final Season to feel. Hopefully it'll pick back up next week.
