Good point. I just hope that at some point they show us a frontal view rather then it just leaving it alone. Since they have stopped time jumping I could easily see the writers just never giving us that frontal.
The LOST writers have confirmed that the statue will be revealed this season, although I think everyone already knows what it is by now. The audio podcast is definitely worth checking out. The video one not so much because I think the dude hosting it is annoying. Can you believe that there are only ~ 23 episodes left of LOST? there are 3 more this season and then the two hour finale. I can't wait to purchase the inevitable bluray boxset that will be coming out. Hopefully it will have a ton of extras in it. Even if it retails for over 300 dollars I would buy it.
I'm starting to despise this whole superstition thing that's going on. It's really taking the good stuff away from the show. I mean it was alright when they had it under control, but now it's too much.. they are taking this way too far with the "monster" and with John Locke being alive after getting killed....
The supernatural element had always been prevalent, the trick being that early on anyone could guess as to whether the supernatural stuff was real or if it was going to be explained by science. I know I went along for at least the first two seasons believing the now trashed (and subsequently reworded) producer soundbite that everything in the show was going to have a scientific explanation. "Man of Science, Man of Faith" - they decided that this wasn't going to be a science-centric show, which demands that a supernatural element be incorporated. The show has evolved/shifted focus over its seasons, which is good and bad. Had it stayed exactly like S1, I would have been bored to death with the slow pace and repetitive flashbacks. But my one really good friend is all but mourning the fact that the heavy emphasis on the characters has given way to plot. There's also the fact that big-payoff shows like this can't possibly satisfy everyone with the answer they go with. The mystery is more enjoyable than the revelation.
All religions arise seeking to provide explanations for what science has not yet explained. The conflict of science and religion in the context of unexplainable science fiction could be a pretty good story line. Who the hell are the The Others? I thought they were going to be the crew of The Blackrock but the Egyptian hieroglyphics seemed to indicate they are recent interlopers. That and the ship wouldn't have had mixed races and women. ( I think one of them was Isis (sp?) the guardian of the river Styx; where you cross over when you're dead)
I thought this was nice visual I had not seen before that I thought I'd share: <img src="http://outsidetheboxuk.files.wordpress.com/2009/01/lost-island.jpg?w=414&h=482" border="0" alt="" />
The "numbers" paradox has really been missing lately. I'll be curious to see how they come into the equation. And I guarantee there will be dozens of unanswered questions after this show is done.
The Others don't appear to be a self-propagating group. Sterilization issues, kidnapping...it seems as though they maintain their numbers by incorporating from without. For example, if you were born and raised on the island with regular-speaking folks like Alpert, why would you have a strong English accent (Widmore)? Personally, I expect that Team Lost will eventually join the Others - as Locke is already leading the way. The numbers have been said by the producers to have been an element that doesn't have substantial meaning (it won't be a big AH-HA! reveal), but that they elected to ride the viewers' excitement/obsession over them. So they stuck. It is believed, though, that they tie in to Venzetti equation: Dharma uses it to predict the end of the world and are trying to alter that through their work on the island. The radio tower broadcast the numbers and would be changed once the results of the equation were altered. I like the look of the map, but I'd caution that the locations have been subject to both minor and major change over the course of the show. The barracks in particular seem to have undergone some shifting. The Temple should be somewhere near the Black Rock. The medical station/Staff should be somewhat near the Lostie camp (NW of it). Evan
I have been slightly vindicated on my theory and your point has been also noted here. Popular Mechanic went straight to a professor of Egyptology and he confirms the drawing underground is Anubis. He does say that the statue seems to be a morph of Anubis and Taweret. From the article and the link: http://www.popularmechanics.com/blogs/science_news/4312764.html?series=6
Lost or the rockets game? what to watch?? im thinking.. rockets game, lost, rockets game ill probably miss the halftime + 3rd quarter
if you dont have a DVR then the watch the rockets game then the intertubez is your friends you can download lost later that night anyway or watch it the next day on abc. i love dvr I have both the rockets and lost set to go tonight commercials be damned
This is likely going to be a slower episode if I'm right - the game's way bigger. I personally am happy to watch LOST live on my big TV and have the Rockets (muted) going on my small TV. I don't mind going without the witticisms of Clyde Drexler. The double TV system is perfect. Only downside is that it annoys the fool out of the wife. Evan
Is clyde doing the game tonight? it is on the road though he may if its just to dallas.. its on espn so i am hoping for a Breen/Van Gundy duo or at least Hubie brown JUST NOT DORIS BURKE PLZ
Probably pointed out already - Richard Alpert. Although Richard Alpert is also the name of a real person...maybe this choice in names worked out perfectly?
