I was just refuting somebody's theory. The baby could be Ethan, but I don't see any specific evidence of that other that a general age coincidence (though the actor who plays Ethan is 43). Nothing about his family was known aside from his wife dying in childbirth. He once told Hurley he was from Ontario which may or may not have been a lie. We do know he spent considerable time off the island because he was a trained surgeon and the one who recruited Juliet. My question is, didn't everyone in Dharma die in the purge? Ethan was an other. He would have had to defect at some point to avoid the purge. The baby born in the episode would have been 15 at the time of the purge so if the baby is Ethan, he would have defected as an adolescent. It's possible but I don't see how it's obvious or a given that it's Ethan. And the baby was born in 1977. The Losties flashed to 1974 and spent 3 years with the Dharma Initiative before Amy gives birth.
not everyone from dharma died in the purge. you're right about that one. but 27 or 30 doesn't matter too much in this case. i think it's obvious because there really isn't anyone else who the baby could be. it's none of the 815 survivors, that's for sure. it can't be ben or richard. karl was too young to be born 1977. it's not faraday because he's mrs. hawking's son. lapidus is too old. goodwin was older than 27 to 30 as well. miles seems to be chang's son. so that really leaves ethan as the only possible character (it was already revealed that amy's baby is someone we've seen before.). plus, like you said, we haven't had much info about him. it's the perfect way to change this. also, i've been pretty good with my theories about lost before.
Ethan is fair possibility, but he would have to join Ben as the only known Dharma turncoats. The only Dharma survivors (Charlotte, assumed others) simply left the island ahead of the purge. I think another possibility has to be Desmond. He's one of the very few characters whose birth origins has not been revealed, the age matches, being born on the island helps his "special" status, and could potentially lead to a Widmore encounter (I personally believe Widmore's been steering Desmond all along, rather than simply despising him). re; Statue built by Dharma - no way - it's likely centuries if not millennia old. That, the temple, the ruins, any structures with hieroglyphics....all were almost certainly built by an as yet unseen faction. Who knows, maybe Richard was originally a Pharaoh. Horus - I have to admit, after second look at the screencapture, it does look like it has (short) ears, and Anubis is the Egyptian god of the dead/underworld. Still, I can't believe the "Horace" (Horus) thing isn't a clue. Also, a BUNCH of the hieroglyphics seen on the temple may correspond to Horus: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Horus http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_n3eH1jI8A...Cs/E9_IcNIkDp4/s1600-h/glyph-translations.gif I won't profess to "know" anything, but I think Horus should at least be a major candidate. Reading up on him (above link), there seems to be even more connections: S1 Locke had a dream where he had a white and a perfectly black eye; Horus has one eye that is the sun and the other that is the moon. Horus & Set's 80 yr war for Egypt could be Ben vs Widmore for the Island (and Set was infertile, like the Others seem to be). Again, could be wrong, and there are other reasonable candidates. Evan
Maybe the identity of the baby isn't important. Maybe people are focusing on the wrong aspect of that part of the story. It could be that the important thing to take away from that event is that giving birth on the island was possible at one point. And whatever caused the mothers to die during childbirth hasn't happened yet. Juliet said a season or two ago that mothers on the island never even made it into their 3rd trimesters. Amy was obviously past that point. Dharma did move women off the island (how come the others didn't?) to give birth but that's likely for unrelated reasons. If the identity of the baby is something they want to be another mystery with a huge payoff, revealing the baby to be Ethan would seem pretty weak. Unless they ramp up Ethan's importance in everything, I remain skeptical.
Given the evidence that we have seen [and the seemingly consistant thing about immortals] Other seem to be exceptionally long lived. . if not immortal that being the case. . . they do not need to reproduce *shrug* So as long as they on the Island that is not a possibility NOW We know once they leave the Island . .they can have kids [Widmore, maybe Eloise] Rocket River
The most interesting thing to me was actually the very beginning of the episode where Locke was shown turning the wheel again at the bottom of the well, we didn't see Christian. I didn't know what to make of that.
I really don't think they're immortals. Richard, maybe, but not all of them. The truth is that we really don't know much about them. Richard is the only one we've seen in multiple time periods looking the same. Widmore and Ms. Hawking were others and aged naturally and I don't think it's because they left the island. They would have had to leave immediately after the encounter with Locke in 1954 for that to be the case. Widmore obviously had encounters with Ben on the island and Ben didn't get there until the late 70s. At one point, Miles said Widmore had been looking for the island for 20 years. Widmore told Locke he had been the leader of the others for 3 decades. That would seem to put his exile around 1984 (even before the purge in 1992). But if that's true, where did Penny come from? She's certainly not in her 20's which means she was born before Widmore was exiled. Was she born on the island? Was she was the result of an affair off the island? Hmmmm.
How I see it: Widmore says he was there for 30 years He was seen in 1954, meaning he had to be gone by/before 1984 Widmore claims Ben tricked him off the island via the donkey wheel The Swan Hatch film was made in 1980 Swan Hatch was built following the "Incident" that caused the "EM build up" -->Widmore caused the "Incident" at the Orchid by turning the wheel in 1978/1979, sending the misplaced survivors back to 2007/2008? Benry would be ~15 years old at the time. The Purge takes place in 1992 when he's ~30.
New episode so here's the obligatory bump. I like the new angle LaFleur is playing in assuming leadership roles, seems promising to the story arc. I guess the biggest question to be answered (by season's end i hope) is how to bridge the 30 year gap and reunite the original Losties...
I would like to know where the rest of the Oceanic crew are. Rose and Bernard? They made the first time jump. I'll be upset if they don't bring back faraday soon. Seeing the sawn being designed was cool.
Where is Faraday? Where is Rose, Bernard, and co? Jack's dad? Why aren't Sun and Ben in 77? Also a joke from the IMDB boards. Pretty ****ing funny. Looking forward to today's episode, honestly, Lost has quietly become a top 3 show.. I don't know why some ppl just don't give it a chance. Anyways, hopefully today's episode will be as good as the last 2-3 have been.
quietly? i think its always been one of the top shows since it started..the only problem is that there is no way someone can start watching the show from the third or fourth season on and catch up. this is one of those shows where you have had to have seen the show from episode 1 onwards.
Well.. no, not according to the ratings. I know when it used to be a top 3 show in ratings for sitcoms.. it has dropped because ppl found it confusing etc. I've been to many forums as well as watched a lot of shows that rate TV shows.
