Widmore bought the log book at an auction during one of Desmond's time jumps in "The Constant". I think he knew about the island and was just buying the log book to help him locate where it was.

You know what bums me out. I have a ticket (55 bucks early registration) to Comicon, but can't afford the airline tickets and hotels out there for it.

I could have volunteered to be in the Dharma initiative!! ;)

I think bringing the body back will release the soul on the island. Jack brought his dad, and he's been all over the island since. I'd assume the same would be true with Locke.

Agreed with the above poster - Widmore already knew about the Island. In fact, his confrontation with Ben strongly implied that he was a main backer of Dharma. "The Island was mine once and it will be again"

Agreed in full. In fact, I'd also say that Ben got kicked to the curb by Jacob because he had been working his own agenda.

That is a big question. Are they dependent on one another? Do they know that they Island let one or the other be killed? Something else?

Was it just me who wasn't surprised it was John Locke who was in the casket?

When they first did the flashback in the beginning of the season, I guessed it was Locke, but kind of second guessed a little in the season finale...but wasn't shocked it was Locke. Sort of a let down finale? It was nice to see how they got off the island and to find out what happened to Sawyer and Desmond.

Desmond ending up safely with Penny was sealed the season for me. It was nice to see that happen. I thought he was going to die after the crash.

I wonder how they're going to do next season. They all have to go back but how? Since the island was moved...

but if ben said they all had to go back wouldnt that mean Desmond would have to return to the island as well? he did stay there longer than any of the oceanic 815 crew. that would suck unless the island "allowed" him to leave since its pretty crazy that penny did find him even though she tracked his phone call in the middle of nowhere. the timing was just perfect to finding them because had they showed up earlier they would have likely been killed or boat taken over by keamy and crew. if they showed late the "oceanic 6" would likely be dead

this show has pretty much become a parody of itself. yes, i keep watching, but none of the 'surprises' have as strong an effect as they once did.

    some nsfw language:

    My theory is this:

Locke has enough faith in the island that he is willing to die to bring the other members back to it. He believes that the island will be able to bring him back to life. Only this can get Jack and others to come back.

I FINALLY got a chance to watch the season finale last night. This spring has been crazy and I haven't kept up with the show as much as I would have liked.

Who from the flight is left alive on the island? Sawyer is, but who else? I lost track of who died in the big shootout. Are Rose and Bernard both alive?

I think I remember it is up in the air as to whether Claire is alive or not.

Is this comicon thing worth going to? I live in San Diego and went to a baseball game last year and all I saw was people dressed up in Star Wars costumes and stuff like that. I'm really not sure what it is all about, especially for $55!

I thought this was a great season of Lost. Can't wait for the next season to begin.

Well, I finally got around to watching this yesterday and my initial reaction was that it was great. The Desmond/Penny payoff was outstanding, made even more so by them tricking you into thinking he drowned after the copter crashed. I didn't seriously think they would kill him off that way, but since I knew he wasn't coming back with the Oceanic 6, I wasn't positive. Then to follow it up with the reunion...well, it got a little dusty in my living room.

A few thoughts/questions I have after the finale:

I definitely think Jin is still alive. They didn't show him blown up, really, and as others have mentioned, Faraday's boat is out there to pick him up, assuming they didn't get taken with the island (which I don't believe they did...more on that later). As others mentioned, this opens up a whole plethora of potential for horrible things that Sun can do to get revenge for her husband's death, only find out later that he didn't die. That could make for some good TV.

They made a quick mention of this on the show...but I wasn't entirely satisfied. Was the smaller island REALLY moved with the main one? Jack mentions it as the pilot is going down, but all Lapidus says is he doesn't see it and it doesn't matter because the fuel ran out. I predict that the smaller island DIDN'T move, that they simply didn't see it in the short time they had before the crash. This is the ultimate destination of Daniel/Jin and the redshirts. I think that there might be some kind of magnetic/temporal echos or aftershocks from whatever happened when the island moved, and Daniel will be able to study this in whatever limited capacity he has on that smaller island. Through that, he will be key in the Oceanic 6 making it back to the island, wherever/whenever it went. I hope it works out that way because I like Daniel and I think he has tremendous potential as a character.

In regards to Jack's sudden decision to lie about the island and convince the other Oceanic 6 to do the same...the only thing that made sense to me was that, on top of other rationalisations that he could have made (protect the islanders, protect the Oceanic 6) I think he remembered that it was LOCKE who insisted he would have to lie about everything. While he thought Locke was full of crap at the time, Hurley's statement in the life raft of basically "Locke was right" about moving the island was enough food for thought for Jack to eventually come around to the idea that he might want to take Locke's advice. By the time Penny's Searcher finds them, he has come around to Locke's advice.

I don't really buy the notion that Richard Alpert is simply skipping forward in time in order to appear ageless. That would insinuate that he somehow has an idea of what times his presence will be necessary and travels forwards accordingly...but I don't see that. I'm still leaning towards the idea that he is somehow ageless from the Island's power...or some other reason. We'll see on that one.

Miles has suddenly become a very interesting character. That Rose immediately didn't like him (over a can of peanuts?) to me was an indication of the writers that he will be something of a villian down the line. Since she was healed by the island's powers, I think Rose is very in tune with the Island. Also, I had previously thought that the only reason Miles was sent to the island was because Widmore/whoever knew about the spirits and apparitions that people sometimes see there, and wanted someone that could potentially be prepared to deal with that. But the fact that he somehow knew Charlotte's history tells me he is more in the know that has been let on. Maybe if she was born on the island, a spirit just told Miles that...but I think it is something else, and I'm not sure what, yet.

I'm starting to wonder about the DHARMA food supplies that have sustained the group up to this point. During the Hatch season, something triggers the event that launches the food suppies via parachute. Where the hell did that come from? Has it ever been explained? How much food did DHARMA really have on that island? The Losties have been eating it for months, and presumably the Others did as well. I wonder if that is something they will ever bother to hash out. I suspect not.

Also, before Dharma showed up, what did the island's original inhabitants eat? Just the fruit and animals they found there? Would that be enough?

This post is way too damn long.

Since most island chains are actually a single land body (mostly underwater), I'm more willing to believe the second island went along for the ride.

Miles: I'm not 100% that he's limited to just ghost-talking. When Michael boarded the freighter in Fiji, Miles immediately called him out as not being who he said he was and mentioned that everyone on the boat was hiding something. Maybe ghosts are telling him all this, or maybe his vibe has a deeper reach. He definitely is going to do major harm if he's there to exorcise all the Obi Wan Kenobi ghosts (Christian, Jacob, etc). I don't think his character is really malevolent, though.

Richard - I'm also thinking he's somehow immortal. I'd like to know how many in Team Other are natives, and how many are random pick ups like the kidnapped kids and flight attendant. AND WHAT WAS UP WITH THE ZOMBIE KIDS?!?!?!

Current tally of Oceanic 815 Survivors:
48 originals, not including the tail section - 42 at the end of S1.
Everyone in the tail section was either kidnapped by Team Other or killed, with Bernard as the only exception. Rose and Bernard are still in play.
Oc6+ Walt are off-island (technically 6 of the survivors)
It's fuzzy on exactly how many were killed during the attack on the barracks, and it's possible 3 or so from the first raft trip died on the freighter.
I think the current number is at or a little shy of 20 remaining on the island, not including the kidnapped/assimilated by Team Other.

Comicon - until flight prices took off, I was really hoping to go this year. Fun convention for the scifi/comic geeks, especially with all the Hollywood teasers and marketing. Last year there was a HUGE thing going on with Dark Knight (scavenger hunt), they debuted the Orchid Video for LOST, the first major trailer for Iron Man, etc.

They also dress up as superheroes!

And they might have cool stuff for Lost...I know there's a video from last year's Comicon showing a video of a different Orchid message. It was pretty funny.

Well, if we knew that these two islands were a chain to begin with, then yeah, I would see them going together. But I'm pretty sure this island has been moved before, so the other, smaller island could very well just be another land mass that happened to be nearby when it was moved to the location it occupied for almost the whole show (until the finale).

Good call on Miles knowing Michael's lie from the outset. I had forgotten that bit. I wonder if Miles knew about Keamy's "Secondary Protocol" before anyone else did.

What zombie kids are you talking about?

I have been trying to get to Comicon the last three years. (Mainly because of LOST and now Heroes) They typically have a lot of really cool stuff going on with some of the Hollywood Comic junkies who just so happen to write/produce shows like LOST and Heroes.

They have a special show on G4 (I think that's what its called) where they show a lot of the events that take place and talk to some of the attendees.

There's your typical Comic geeks that make up most of the attendees but the guests are more varying.

It's basically "the" place to get hype started for new shows, movies and materials in the sci-fi genre (or close the the sci-fi genre)

If you all can drive to it, I completely recommend it. And I haven't even ever been!

Yeah, it's pretty much just Sawyer, Rose, and Bernard now plus some redshirts.

Where's everybody else that has had at least some kind of role?
Off the Island: Jack, Kate, Sayid, Hurley, Sun, Aaron, and Walt.

Dead: Michael (presumably), Ana Lucia, Frank Arzt (science teacher who blew up), Shannon, Boone, Eko, Charlie, Libby, Niko & Paulo (wonder twins buried alive), and a handful of minor characters like the marshal who was escorting Kate.

With the others: Locke, Cindy (Australian stewardess) and a couple of kids.

    Unknown: Jin and Claire.

    Thanks for the recap.

One other quick question to throw up for discussion. Since everything on the show has signifigance (or does it??), why does Locke's coffin seem short?

    That has been bugging me.
